I don't get why people keep complaining about this. If everyone has too much EXP, just deposit your items in a chest then sacrifice yourself in lava. Bam, no more experience orbs to cause you lag.
As far as I am aware nothing stops these damn orbs, even dying in lava. They just kill the server. Everytime you die they spawn, we picked them up adding to our current exp. We died so now even more come out, we picked up. Died again so now EVEN MORE. Like a domino effect. Didnt really realize this til it was too late. Your XP does not reset to zero it seems.
And how can you lag from bubbles? Imagine this times 5 in one little area. MC was crashing so not all of the bubbles displayed properly =/
It's super annoying. It only causes more lag. It doesn't make players "scared" of dying, it just pisses them off. It pisses me off. Does anyone agree?
We don't really know how EXP will balance out in 1.9. If it's that bad, I'd just avoid touching EXP altogether.
edit: I actually just hatched a decent idea, that in certain increments EXP should form a bigger bubble. I don't know, maybe 20 small orbs = 1 bigger orb, 20 bigger orbs = 1 giant orb.
But again, I doubt it'll be removed until 1.9 if it would be removed at all. I'd just avoid picking them up, or modding them out until then.
I even registered to answer to you.
Now, when I'm writing that post for you, my minecraft is hardly in lags trying to get all expirience that i've losted.
I have 12Gb(Twelve Gigabyte) of RAM, Core i5 650. GeForce 8800 GTS.
Isn't that enough? I'm seraching through that forum to find a solution for that problem.
If you are playing for some time, experience is collecting in huge amounts.
Sorry for my english. I'm from Russia.
Who cares if you have 12 gazillion bytes, if you don't tell Java how much it can use, it still wont use it.
go in the Control Panel then Java, go in the Java tab, click on the View button and in the Runtime Parameters line enter as is -Xincgc -Xmx4G
It will allocate 4G to your JVM for any application that calls Java, now you are using your ram with Java.
I don't really pay too much attention to the orb meter, but even if I do lose them - it just makes me try harder not to die next time. It's actually caused me to be a lot more cautious and strategic when fighting mobs, so it's like a new style of gameplay for me.
Still, if you dislike it, than I can't change that. I'm just putting up my opinion of the matter, perhaps as a different perspective for you.
Experience orbs are great for an RPG'ish Adventure mode (albeit with larger orbs for more experience), but they're stupid in Survival mode where a person's just as likely to die farming lava or building high structures than hunting mobs.
Survival is too much of the defacto building mode for some of these new mechanics.
And no, I'm not going to play Creative. Creative is boring. I want to have to work for my resources so there's actually some pride in having built something.
Also, you got lag? Welcome to the small percentage of the complainers on the forums.
Your lag is exclusive buddy.
My MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8 runs as smooth as ever.

Only the developers... they're probably wrong though, you just carry on.
Names, and functions can be completely different from each other, and I've only heard that Notch was on the fence for the function of these orbs.
Do learn not to be hasty in your judgments; you can't base your arguments solely on semantics boyo.

The dropping orbs is very much intentional, thus the fix that was put in to stop the lag, though I never noticed it before I assume it's obviously intentional.
I believe I was sufficiently hasty enough... boyo!
I can base my arguments on actual evidence, rather than conjecture which is all you've provided. :wink.gif: Where can we see Notch being on the fence?
You can't really call it semantics when it is clearly the developers intent.
Of course it's conjecture, your telling me you know exactly without a doubt the future function of these orbs along with evidence that lacks no sense of indecisiveness at all?
Round 2:40, notch talks about spending . . . that can go any way in my opinion . . . either spent on skills or spent on items.

Do you really think that it's my firs contact with Java? I'm java programmer and I know how to work with it.
But the problem exists.

And maybe it only removes current XP rather than level?

when i die i drop AT LEAST 100000 orbs. I get 1-3 FPS. AND IT REALLY REALLY SUCKS. I HAVE EVEN TRIED DESTROYING THE ORBS WITH LAVA AND THEY CAME BACK.
Still, if you dislike it, than I can't change that. I'm just putting up my opinion of the matter, perhaps as a different perspective for you.
Siggd.
The joke doesn't make sense unless you got the question and answer.
Edit: I totally stole your idea.

I call them kill streak orbs.
Most likely it will be called money soon . . .

you don't lose any EXP on death in cave story. you just restart from last save
