The Good:
-The health and food system. It doesn't make sense that food directly healed, and it made things a bit too easy. It's a bit more realistic, and it provides a nice challenge, and makes it a good survival game.
-The chargeable bows. It's my favorite part of the whole update. It's about time arrows stop going six blocks away and doing so little damage. They're actually useful now and it's like firing a bow!
-The sprinting. Walking everywhere just doesn't cut it. If you need to get somewhere quickly, at the cost of food, sprinting is a great addition.
-Endermen. One of my favorite mobs right here. The old mix of creepers, skeletons, and zombies just don't cut it anymore. They're very different and provide great variety. They're also relatively difficult to fight without arrows or a diamond sword. I know I will get a boatload of raeg from everyone, but I like how they can move player-placed blocks.
-Cave Spiders. Arguably the hardest mob to fight, they'll take a chunk out of your life, an almost guaranteed four to five hearts without an antidote. It's a real challenge for those of us who are sick of seeing one zombie.
-The lighting. Very awesome! It looks just plain beautiful. Enough said.
-The overall new combat system. It's an improvement on an admittedly large part of Minecraft. I only wish they took it farther, and nerfed sword swings so that you could only swing once per 1.5 seconds or something, so that way, using a sword takes more skill than just mashing the mouse button, but that's just my opinion.
The Bad:
-The animal spawning. Mojang screwed up the spawning, somehow. Chickens rarely spawn in my games, and it seems that when you kill an animal, it doesn't respawn. Now that bows are actually worth something, chickens, and ultimately feathers, are so rare that arrows are hard to get? Animals need to spawn correctly again.
-The sheer amount of food. There goes the challenge. Somehow, it needs to be nerfed. Not so that animals stop spawning, but maybe so that hunger decreases faster, maybe?
The Ugly:
-Chickens dropping chicken in place of feathers three times in a row. Say what you want, but this is scary to me. I'm sick of killing a chicken and seeing chicken, as if there wasn't enough food already. Instead, they should drop feathers like before. No chicken.
-The blocking. How useless is this? Oh dear, I am about to take a hit. Instead of attempting to dodge it, I will instead take half a heart of damage willingly. The only use this has is maybe for arrows and PvP. I don't know if it can reduce damage against arrows. If it can, then I take back what I said about the blocking. If it can't, then I stand by this being useless except in PvP.
-The sheer amount of coal. Coal should be plentiful, yes, but I shouldn't find so much coal so quickly. Contrary to what everyone else is saying, I don't see much more iron than normal, but I'm seeing a ton of coal, maybe too much. Not a big complaint; if you don't want so much coal, don't collect it, but still.
What do you all think?

Well, the I think the food is common so that people wont complain that they can't find food. Also, I think that blocking was more intended to make multiplayer combat more interesting like arenas.
I personally could care less about endermen as they don't really seem to be a threat, however, they may surprise you. To me the food system is okay and adds some challenge but really only in a desert biome.
Off topic: I never really liked the good, bad, and the ugly categories becuase there are two negeavties it should have like 5 categories or 3. For example, amazing, good, acceptable/annoying, bad, and good or good, bothersome, bad.
You said that chicken spawning has changed. In a way, I guess you are right, but they are not rare now. It seems that animal spawning now relies on the biome. If you want mass amounts of wool, I would suggest going to a plains biome, for instance. All you need to do is find a place that chickens spawn in, then go slaughter them.
I agree that food is a bit too common, but it is nigh on impossible to get underground when you need it most. I would say that a balance would be nice, where there would be something to eat underground in the mines, and less of a drop rate on the meat drops.
It's also apparently changed in such a way so that if you kill all the chickens... you don't get any more chickens. If just the animal spawning were brought back to the way it used to be, I would say that everything is fine.

The experience pearls should go into the Bad or Ugly. I have been playing for a few hours... days, now and if I die by creeper sneak attack in a mine, I had might as well just make a new map because it will take FOREVER to collect all the little buggers, and they slow down the game so much.
