If you don't like it, stop playing it. The game is in Beta. I played the game since Alpha, and I have no problems. My only complaints are packs of Creepers spawning (I think they should be much more rare than they are, like one creeper spawning in a 20x20 area) and I don't believe the Creeper fuse is long enough. Outside of that, I think the game is turning into a brilliant piece of work. And if "no fog key" breaks the game for you, you really just do sound like someone that hates change.
Again, the game is in Beta. That means you are playing a game that is buggy, because it isn't finished. You know how many bugs there were in Alpha? I have bugs where mobs can't be attacked because they are trapped in a doorway, but they can hit me. I get upset, but I don't hate the game, because the game is still in development. It's like hating an infant because you don't like its personality. It's just a baby, it has to grow up first.
As for lag, I only experience lag when the host is exploring and new chunks are being created. But that was only in 1.8 pre-release v1. I haven't experienced any lag since.

In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night, No Evil Shall Escape My Sight. Let Those Who Worship Evil's Might, Beware My Power! Green Lantern's Light!
Did not upgrade and will not upgrade.
Still on a modded 1.7.3
After watching the Yogscast do their 1.8 vids I came to these conclusions;
*New Biomes and Villages are great
*Silverfish are cool and scary
*Endermen are also cool and scary
*Strongholds and mine-shafts also look cool
But these are absolute deal-breakers for me;
*Sprinting mechanic is OP and out of place
*XP seems out of place in Minecraft
*Hunger bar is, on its own, so much a deal breaker I will never upgrade again without having a mod to remove it assuming I ever upgrade again.
*Endermen are too buggy right now. I will NOT download something that creates a mob that can directly move my blocks!
*Villages lack NPCs, something my current install of Millenaire doesnt suffer from
