Okay, so I have read a whole lot of 1.8 hating threads. And don't get me wrong, I have some disappointments too. But I feel compelled to start a positive thread about 1.8 update. If you want to hate on the update go to one of the hundreds of hating threads. Otherwise the more optimistic people will be here.
Biomes - I like the bigger biomes. Deserts feel like deserts now. Not just the occasional sandbox I pass on the way to trees to cut down. The ocean biomes are epic; I'm considered starting an underwater fortress again, they just need a little more wildlife and/or mobs to make them interesting. And the flat biomes are great too. Plenty of space for easily building on.
Ravines - They're kinda cool. Minor addition if you ask me, but cool.
Caves - The underground is way better. I don't know about you but t seems to me that caves are much bigger. Wider tunnels with larger chambers. Much scarier place to be. It was easy before to place a few torches, and BAM, mobs are no longer a problem.
Villages - They're cool too. I know. I know. No NPCs, but damn they're a good start. The buildings are pretty nice. And they spawn in flat biomes so there's nothing stopping you from building an epic castle/fortress with a village at your feet.
Blocks - The new blocks are a much appreciated addition. Bricks, gates, iron bars, glass panes. All cool. Again minor, but appreciated for building purposes.
Strongholds and mineshafts - Haven't found any myself yet. But please feel free to tell us about it if you have.
Hunger bar - I like the hunger bar too. Makes more sense that you heal over time instead of instantly healing by shoving raw porkchops down your gullet. And really gives purpose to farming and having a farm.
Anything else that I missed? Again, positive stuff please. There's lots of other threads for talking trash already. Feel free to go there. If no one replies to this I guess I'll just have to stand alone in thinking the 1.8 isn't that bad.

If you think something's impossible.
You haven't tried hard enough.
I like where Mojang are heading. Just need 1.9 and mobs that are an actual threat against a dirt wall.
That wasn't being positive. That was a common complaint masquerading as a loose compliment.
I don't know why everyone expected the world of this update. The history of Mojang has shown a lot of promises per update, and then a small update after all. Calm down, and say something nice. I'm not trying to be a Notch zealot or anything. I'm just saying one, ONE, positive thread.

It was being positive. I like pretty much everything in this patch, however half of it is stuff that will only be a proper feature in 1.9 (ie villages are cool, but will only be a proper feature when they have NPCs).
The only complaint I have is that I want more mobs that can mine.

Agreed. They're not a proper feature as of yet. Just an easy found set of houses and a wheat garden.
And yes, mobs that mine would be cool. There's a lot of enderman hating, but we kinda of needed them to make it a game. As it stood all mobs were a minor nuisance while exploring. Now there's something going after those elaborate creations of ours.

While I like the theme of this thread, I'm going to have to disagree with you here. While I have little experience with Endermen (what with the only recent release of them), they have proven to be more of an irritation than a challenge. If there was a mob that went around smashing everything in its path, but you can have countermeasures to it, that would be nice. However, creepy tall people who just take a few blocks away aren't a threat. They're a nuisance.
EDIT: I guess I should add some positives...:
I love the hunger system. I frequently find myself making completely self-sufficient dwellings, and normally the only reason I have a farm is because the aesthetic/roleplay value. Now there's an actual reason to be harvesting.
I love the addition of new crops. I love Dwarf Fortress, and the addition of new crops to Minecraft makes the game feel a lot like a shinier Dwarf Fortress.
I like the Mine Shafts, and poison (venom) spiders. The first time I saw one (after reading about them on the wiki) it fell from a ledge right on my face. Needless to say I flipped out. Since then, the abandoned mine shafts always give me the creeps when I go in them.

Damn. I still can't get people to say nice things.
Okay, okay. Admittedly the enderman are underwhelming, but have great potential. So how about this why not positive feedback on making stuff better? Not "This stupid get rid of it" and not the "toggle button" for everything. But legit suggests for real improvements. How would you make endermen better? What would make them scary, but it still be a game? That kind of stuff.

just one that i not very like in this new update ,the world seems not that epic like the 1.7.3 ,i can't find any high mountain ,so far that i just meet the flat ,ocean and swam biomes ,and one more thing ,that i found sooo many ravines ,that just make me sick that i found ravines where ever i go :dry.gif:
1. I agree with raptor, as long as the miningmobs doesn't destroy epic buildings, I hear loads of people complaining about endermen ruining their creations.
2. I absolutely LOVE 1.8, the hunger bar, the lightning, the void, the bow animation, the ravines and so on. I haven't seen a NPC village yet, but they sure are awesome too (perhaps the gravel paths are a bit messy?). Though, the endermen aren't half as scary, rare and dangerous as I thought they would be. :biggrin.gif: Generally an amazing update, though I can't wait till' 1.9, since that's where the big adventure stuff is going to be completed.
3. Only one little complaint: There should be a way to change a survival into a creative world. I am working on an adventuremap, and it bothers me that I can't use the new features, just because I started the project BEFORE 1.8 came, the TooManyItems mod have been quickly updated though so it isn't such a big problem.
That's it I guess.
1) So what should happen? A flag? This is okay for you endermen to destroy, but stay away from this thing.
2) Oh, I forgot the lighting. Yah that's pretty cool too. And what about the void? I didn't hear anything about that. And again, yes the endermen are underwhelming.
3) Now that would be a good feature. Switching between the two modes could be great. A prefer survival mode. But even I felt "lazy" at times and installed TMI to build endlessly. So it would be worthwhile to switch back and forth.

Try a different seed. I've seen plenty of mountains, and all other available biomes. I do miss the tundra though.

Hey bud, you don't read do you? What in there was positive? Lol, pathetic.
I like how Pig IQ got bigger... I hate how i can't find a single damn sheep...
Yes!!! The passive mobs finally running when you whack 'em in the head. I almost felt bad before hitting a pig for his chops just to have him stare at me with a half cocked quizzical look on his pig face.

I agree with you on all counts. the update is great. I love the new blocks. I mostly like to build things and add on to my pirate map. The glass panes, stone brick, and steel bars are awesome and I am currently integrating those blocks in. I am trying to think of creative uses for the steel bars. I mean, I can use them for jails, but can't think of too much else. I know there is great potential in steel bars just trying to figure it out. They look so cool. I haven't really been playing on a map for too long with the enderman. When the pre-release came out I did some adventuring and tunneling and ran into a few. Some I could kill no problem and some I for some reason enjoyed getting the crap kicked out of. Haven't had a enderman steal bricks from any of my huts but they have been real small and I have never had an enderman around a hut that didn't already have a brick in its hand.
Its not a complaint, but it would awesome if the enderman threw the block at the player or at animals.
The caves and dungeon are awesome. It is fun getting lost in one and then trying to get out. Haven't run into an underground fortress yet though. Hope to soon.

For the iron bars. Why not an iron fence? Jails good though. Mob jail. I know they de-spawn after awhile, but still.
Throwing the block would be great. Imagine a mob of mobs. Endermen chasing you throwing bricks instead of teleporting. That's cool.
And the underground forttresses are suppose to be super rare. Super, super rare. I haven't read about a single person that's found one legit yet.

I really love the ravines, rivers and bigger biomes.
I find the hunger bar positively loathsome to deal with, especially when the animals insist on spawning exclusively in the water again... But it's not a dealbreaker.
The underground mines have fantastic potential, but I feel they're not there yet. The rails are more useful in terms of bounty, than the contents of any chest I've ever found down there.
All in all, this update has added a lot of beauty and flair to the game world, in my opinion.
I have seen animals spawn all over. In fact if you could trip I would have been tripping over them.
Rails is way more useful a bounty.
Beauty and flair. Absolutely, there's more potential for the whole minecraft world at large then ever before.

Love the lighting. It actually makes the caves a little less "cold" and makes the light actually feel like a safe spot from the mobs.
I also love the blue spiders. The way they drop down on you from above actually makes the game scary again (only because I've gotten so used to the existing mobs).
Damn. I still can't get people to say nice things.
