In the pre-release I've noticed that I still see random splotches of sand.
Didn't notch say he would fix this? I have only noticed deserts, but random out of biome blocks are still appearing.
Did you try placing grass on top of the sand to see what color it was? Chances are it's still the same biome it's just got sand in it... kinda like swimming shorts; they're still swimming shorts even if you've got sand in 'em.
Yeah, that is not a different biome, that is just some sand.
and when notch has mentioned blending biomes, it was never said it was going to be in 1.8 even, just that eventually that would be something he'd look into.

talking about logically, blending forests and deserts is not what I meant. Was referring to something actually resembling real larger biome blending, cold==>hot dry==>humid
not cold and dry to humid and hot right next to eachother. or vice versa.

It's always made minecraft look a lot terrible when sand was mixed with dirt, removal of random small splotches are why I have been waiting for 1.8, but they still seem to exist.
Yeah, but I'm not really focusing on good transition between biomes.
It's getting to the point where I think 1.7.3 is better, and I have to move to and island and live underwater because the biomes are getting too ridicules as I explore.
I can tell this biome thing wasn't finished in pre-release. Though biomes are gigantic! I haven't found random splotches. I guess there is some but I guess I am either lucky or there isn't as much.
You understand the term "random" correct? Unless they can work coding magic without slowing progress on anything else, I Love biomes the way they are. I like that about minecraft. where else but minecraft (or California) can you walk off of a desert, and into a snowy area.

After 10:30 PST, my IQ drops to around that of a shovel, please disregard anything I say after aforementioned time, it will likely not make any sense, and is best ignored.

I'm pretty sure Notch can limit the spawning of sand in biomes that do not include sand, other than for beaches.
I don't consider those blotches whole new biomes . . .

True but he can restrict it from being on the surface and appearing with grass in the 'checkerboard' pattern and other stuff like that. While I find the OP's title misleading (because a splotch of sand is not a biome), I agree for the most part with him. I would like to see more uniform terrain generated.
It also bothers me that there are so many patches of dirt and clay mixed in with sand in the ocean. I get that it is not finished but ideally the ocean would be surrounded by sand until the water gets about 15 deep and then it would be a mixture of sand, gravel, and rock.

Notch said he would fix this...

You know, that was probably intentional. Sand is rather ubiquitous.

Biomes are blended right now where they meet.

Ah, I understand.
Why does it matter if there is sand?

Notch really needs to fix biomes codes for the release.
There needs to be more transition of temperature and humidity

PlanetSide 2 Megathread because why not?

Yes, but all biomes include sand.
