Before when you crafted an item in your workbench or inventory window, you could shift click on the resulting crafted item and it would move one portion of it into your inventory. Now when you shift click it makes as many creations as it can out of the resources you've put into the crafting area, effectively wasting all of it at once and moves it to your inventory. If you want to do it only a couple times that's not possible anymore.
I realize that when shift-clicking was first implemented this was its natural behaviour, but I appreciated the change to moving only one portion to the inventory. I don't like Minecraft assuming I want to waste all my resources to make as many crafted items as possible. I'd really like this to be changed back to how it worked in 1.7 and 1.8 pre-release 1.

Or, and stay with me here, you could just put in enough materials to create the amount of the item you want? *gasp*
Then don't put all of the resources in the crafting grid? I like the option to move everything, since nine times out of ten that is what I want to do.I even craft armour such that boots, helmet, and pants all come fro mthe same pile of resources on the crafting grid.
Why would you put that many in the boxes if you didn't want that many?
Your argument also is not that it's "overpowered" but that it just does something you don't like.
You may not like it but I'd bet you're on the minority, personally I've been playing with mods that had the current behaviour so I was very pleased at it.
unrelated, I very much appreciate the sig, seems people have been spreading all kind of misinformation that just frustrates me.
Clicking a given number of times to not lose your resources and then simply moving the cursor on to the chest and clicking once again is far more easy then having to click 64 times to get a stack of a block. I won't even begin to tell you how hard it is to get multiple stacks. So this shift click is the proper way.
Why do I deserve to be ridiculed? I wasn't calling Jeb, Notch, or anyone at Mojang or these forums morons for changing it. I was not being unfair in any way yet it seems everything is met with ridicule and insult on these forums no matter what anyone is trying to say.
Why did they have it this way to begin with, change it for multiple version iterations, and then finally change it back without warning? Unless I missed it on the changes list. For me it's just easier and faster for me to throw all my blocks in the crafting area, make as much as I want, and then put the rest away than it is to put the specific number of multiple types of blocks I'd like to make a craftable item with in first. And I've been used to this method for a long time now. It's annoying to have it changed after being used to a system for so long. Make up your minds!
Easiest fix: Make Control do what the OP wants, and keep shift how it is. Problem solved.

You're being ridiculed because you want something the majority likes to be changed, just because you're to lazy to put less items in the crafting grid, instead of whole stacks. You've been a member of these forums long enough to have seen this reaction coming.

Eh, the internet has a very high signal-to-noise ratio. Don't let it bother you chief.

Beta is for changes. You want a stable game, play a full release. In the testing process, multiple ways of doing something are tested for various periods of time. Don't worry-- I'm sure once the full release is out, they won't make so many more drastic interface changes, and you'll be free to get used to one way of interacting with things.
I personally am in two minds about this-- I did enjoy the sloppy way of just putting my whole stacks of resources on the grid and then making as many as I wanted, but this does, say, make stacks of torches waaaaay faster. That said, I miss having a way to instantly move crafted items into the inventory.

This. I like being able to do both things.
Though maybe it's better to reverse them, since shift clicking on chests moves the items directly. It would be weird to use control on one and shift on the other.

Although it seems that you are one.
Overpowered means that the object, unit, etc. can be easily OVERPOWERING other objects, units etc. Usually said about mobs. "The skeleton is overpowered" (if it shot 10 arrows in 10 directions, and had 1000 hearts).
Unbalanced means that the object or system is either too good for its worth or not enough.
Now, as many other people have mentioned, shift clicking is an optional hazard. You can chose not to click it, it's not like you suddenly feel your pinky slide over and press it... or you should get that checked out under "muscle spasm"
And other people mentioned, you can chose to put certain amount of material such as 4 wood instead of 64. etc.etc.
Do i deserve to be ridiculed?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes. because you are using concepts that are not supposed to be used. (in this specific context)
consider this:
normal clicking lets you stack the items on your cursor, then move them to the inventory. This is an extra mouse movement and click every 64 produced blocks compared to the old shift method, a fairly minor increase
The new method can make stackso of things in a single click. This is a huge decrease.
having to drop the items into your inventory manually is a good tradeoff for being able to throw stacks around. I often do things like filling the grid with full stacks of sticks while makeing ladders, or putting all of my iron on when making rails. it is a huge time saver to craft all of those with one click.
Take making ladders:
64 logs
256 planks
512 sticks
73 ladders
normal clicking:
1 click 1 movement to move the logs
64 clicks to craft the logs
4 movements
4 clicks to move the planks
3 movements,
3 clicks to move planks to crafting grid(the last plank stack can be moved directly)
128 clicks to make sticks
8 clicks
8 movements to move sticks
6 clicks
6 movements to move sticks to crafting grid
64 clicks to craft ladders
1 movement
1 click to drop ladders in invetory
total:279 clicks, 22 movements to make 64 ladders and 64 sticks
old shift-clicking
1 click
1 movement to move the logs
64 clicks to craft the logs
4 movements,
4 clicks to move planks to crafting grid
128 clicks to make sticks
7 clicks
7 movements to move sticks to crafting grid
64 clicks to craft ladders
total: 268 clicks, 12 movements
new shift clicking
1 click
1 movement to move the logs
1 clicks to craft the logs
4 movements,
4 clicks to move planks to crafting grid
2 clicks to make sticks
7 clicks
7 movements to move sticks to crafting grid
1 click to craft ladders
totals: 16 clicks, 12 movements
As yo ucan see, the difference between the normal clicking and the old shift-clicking was fairly minor, and the new shift-clicking has huge savings.

Don't like the Shift Click? DON'T USE IT.

if they're reading these forums, they're very patient people. i'd have given up by now with people complaining about every little thing i did.

you realize this game is still in beta right?
If you only want to make a couple of things, click it a few times (without holding shift) to get what you need and move it where ever.
Woah that was hard.
You're being ridiculed because you want something the majority likes to be changed, just because you're to lazy to put less items in the crafting grid, instead of whole stacks. You've been a member of these forums long enough to have seen this reaction coming.
Agreed, having the option for different inventory management is always good.
