Is it just me, or has the 1.8 update simply made minecraft... Scarier?
I mean when I first saw an enderman it was like staring death in the face holding a grass block, then when I began scouring the globe for strongholds and mineshafts it just became worse. I am now very far from spawn, playing on easy and the one home I've decided to build has yet to have a roof over it.
It's not just that should I die, I could lose everything and never find it, it's that even regular travel and spelunking has become far scarier than it used to be. The worst thing I used to worry about were creepers and skeletons, maybe spiders, now there's a whole new slew of troubles, even wandering around about daytime I have to watch every step because several times now I've found myself barely teetering over the edge of a ravine and it's even worse when mining. I dread mineshafts now, they are great! Don't get me wrong, I was dying to find one at first, but those damned blue spiders are certain death and these things have really unsure footing for what used to be populated! I actually had a branching ravine through this mine and several times I have tried navigating my way only to become lost or miss a jump ever so slightly and fall a measurable distance. Not to mention the fact that you never know when a bug will cause some very bizarre and/or hazardous terrain. And don't get me started on vines...
I can barely get the courage to do what I used to do so regularly on multiplayer servers, perhaps the cure will be the presence of others, perhaps it's the beloved /sethome command which I desperately need. Maybe I'll be happy when the terrain becomes second nature and predictable again.
Don't get me wrong, I love it, I just fear death so much now I can barely get anything done! Notch should make a horror game, he'd be good at it.
Just my short commentary, just wanted to see if others feel this way as well.
I read the topic, and literally almost started crying picturing a 12 year old bawling his eyes out trying to play Minecraft. Thank you for that. It's Minecraft, it's the opposite of scary.

Don't be such a meanieface!
OP, I agree. I get freaked out playing Minecraft as it is before the update, everything feels weirdly forboding and isolated even when it's sunny and daytime! I don't know why.
And now there's these godamn freaky ass mineshafts and ravines and endermen, so yes I totally get how you feel! And I agree that it's great, and it's quite impressive that they managed to create such an atmosphere within a game with 8 bit graphics :tongue.gif: reminds me of Everquest 1 hehee :happy.gif:
You see a Enderman at the end of a loooong tunnel in an abandoned mineshaft. He is now teleporting towards you block by block. When he gets to you, you're ****ed. Panic?
Nope. Just charge my bow for the initial strike.

I still have yet to see anyone make a statue of a dwarf strangling a kitten that you can live inside.
True the game is a lot harder now then it used to be.
And Endermen are far worse than zombies and skeletons. If they are worse than creepers it would be a no from me. Nothing can beat a creeper ... except maybe Han Solo.
After making a cobble generator and a diggy hole house w/bed, I set the game on peaceful. No point going through the night's terrors when all im doin is building. I only do this while im building. Now that I have a monster-proof little plot of land I keep it on normal.

No way. Either I get ready to get the first hit or I merely switch to my bucket of water and lay it down.
Nothing in this game is challenging unless you suffer from one of the three "P"s. Panic, Paranoia, Parkinsons.

Oh don't be such an internet wannabe tough guy. I'm not insecure enough to claim I can't get scared :tongue.gif:
Bit of a bump, oh well.
TBH the only scarier game I've played is Amnesia, the atmosphere and the terrible punishment for dying does make a fear inducing situation. I'm mostly worried about the fact that the base I'm setting up is miles from spawn, not smart, but I really wanted to find the good stuff ya know?
And it's not so much I find enderman dangerous, scary, not dangerous. Yeah, they're easy to kill, but the shock factor is plenty :tongue.gif:

zombies are harder than an enderman in my option.
I feel like it's less the mobs than the actual environment that is freaky. D:
