I don't think these oceans are bugs. On the seed I posted, I went quite a ways to the west and found a full continent.. it was massive. So, I think these are just "Ocean Biomes" to the max. They are the actual barriers between continents.. no longer do we have worlds that are continuous land mile after mile.. now there are islands, continents, oceans, seas, you name it.
It's a little glitchy, the Yogscast first spawned on an island map when they first did the update. The land is probably sunk too, I remember I saw trees with their trunks in the water. OH NO THE SCIENTISTS' FLOOD PREDICTION CAME TRUE!!!
Its a bug that will probably get fixed in 1.8 RELEASE, so oceans will be small like the rest of biomes
Never! Oceans are supposed to be massive. If you don't like spawning onto an island with nothing but water for miles then make another map. I myself spawn in the middle of a large forest 90% of the time and dream of spawning onto an island with just 1 tree.
Leave the oceans how they are. The fact that these oceans are massive and the continents themselves are massive is so epic to me. When i play the full release im gonig to build a nice house, grow some crops and gather resources then i want to go find every village on my continent then after i've explored the continent i want to sail across the ocean and find even more villages. Then I want to build a massive road system connecting all the villages and ill name them all with signs... Thats what i def want to do lol.
The map I'm using is like your picture only I didnt get a big island in the upper left :tongue.gif: though I did spawn with trees and a cave on my island leading to a hugely expansive abandoned mineshaft. There's also a zombie dungeon on the island a bit under the surface.

Periods and all. Loving the seed so far
I do think it is a bug. What it seems is when you spawn on what I like to call an "ocean" map, the seed is all messed up and it's spawing a larger amount of ocean biomes than the rest. It isn't even. There is nothing wrong with large oceans, but there need to be large land to go with it.

I really wouldn't mind the ocean biomes, if there was a possibility to breathe underwater, like a diver suit. Otherwise they seem kind of a biome that's just there to make the world feel realistic.

You don't spawn on an "ocean map." Several cartographs show there is far more land biomes than oceans biomes in each seed but you just had the luck of ending up on the deserted island that happens to be directly in the center of all the connected oceans. All Mojang needs to do is alter the spawn code to restrict ocean biomes as a spawn location. Spawn on the mainland instead and we'll walk to the ocean if we want to.
I'm really happy with the patch overall so far.
Minecraft Bucket List for Hardcore mode!
Worst spawn ever.
What are you talking about? You actually spawn on land in that one >.>

Yes, but there are no substantial islands.
For, like, miles.
I went right for twenty minutes in a boat before finding ANYTHING.

May the force be without you.
