So I was thinking with 1.8 being just around the corner and us having to start a new world, what about 1.9? The reason we have to start a new world is because of all the new terrain updates. Now if everything terrain-wise was added in 1.8 we wouldn't have to restart again in 1.9. But it seems like Notch has a lot of new biomes he wants to add but won't be done in time for 1.8. So do you think we'll have to start over again in 1.9?
While there probably are going to be some modifications (IE, Notch saying that mushroom forests will be "more epic" later on (maybe 1.9)), I don't think they'll be major enough. I would personally put almost, if not all, my terrain generation into one half rather than just putting random bits and pieces in both, as that would tick people off.
He said in his twitter that he "loves all our biome ideas, he will try and get them into 1.9", so I suspect there will be some major changes to some things, possibly adding new biomes too.
Well, now that 1.9 is separate, Mojang has decided to start adding more to that update, so expect it to be a ways off. And, yes, there will be new generation. There will always be new generation sometime down the road.

Nature should really stop catering to all these furries! I mean, do we REALLY need two kinds of elephant? Puh-leaze.
