So I've been thinking about the new healing system and it seems to me that if you can't instantly gain health, PvP Servers are going to suffer. Do you think notch will add something along the lines of healing potions to make it possible for faster healing? Post your ideas or thoughts.
I don't think PVP servers will suffer. The update will make them more exciting IMOP.
Sure with the new combat bows etc, but for a classic style pvper like me that will completely overthrow my eating food tactics. And with diamond swords you die fairly quickly even with armor making food the only thing that drags the battle on just a little bit longer making it more exciting. Also, in SSP if you fall off a cliff and get 1 heart left you would need to hide and wait for it all to regenerate before you can explore safely and be able to be attacked and survive.

I'm fairly confident the food bar will be optional. Probably a setting under the server config for SMP.
It won't make much of a difference to pvp smp servers. They will just mod it to whatever suits their desires. I have to say though, I am generally for the idea of healing potions, bandages etcetera.
If your health bar is full, and you only take a bit of damage, you'll be back to full health in a relatively short time. It just means that you'll have to fall back and move forward, methodically. AND don't forget blocking, which is probably going to revolutionize PvP.
PvP servers aren't going to suffer... :dry.gif: Rather they'll more intense and a LOT more fun. You play games like CoD and you heal up in 3 seconds - After being shot in the leg with a Barret .50 caliber. Yeah, you're not walking away from that. That's what PvP in Minecraft is like.
Then you play games like WoW for PvP and you have to have healing spells (Or the nearly useless potions you can buy with honor points.) in order to heal. This is what PvP in Minecraft will become.
It'll be more about PvP than who has the most porkchops. You'll have to worry about being charged and knocked back, hyper-damage arrow crits, and with the added ability to downslash crit with weapons... You're gonna need more than a bucket of lava now. You're gonna need to EARN that rightful spot in the rankings.
Eating food mid-combat is part of what they were trying to prevent. Its kinda silly to win a combat becuae you had more pork chops in your quick select bar. It also makes damage that much more meaningful. Its nota simple "get wounded ,eat some food, be fine". Avoiding damage will be more important since it won't just recover instantly. Combined with losing all levels on death, combat should be much more tense. More caution is in order, though there are also greater rewards for winning combat. The dynamic should encourage combat but discourage being foolhardy.
And the other combat changes should help PvP. Blocking in particular should hellp combat alot. The charging abilty offers more tactical options, the crits for being higher encourage tactical use of the terrain.

Agreed, no more stacks of doom dominating this game. Moreover, if I'm not mistaken, we haven't seen the functions of the golden apple as of yet; perhaps that's the only true healing item available to players. It is quite rare, so hopefully there would be some way to naturally get red apples and finally give a use to all that gold laying around in the mines.

You need to read the first post more carefully instead of being a wannabe mod =/
There might be a need for healing potions if you don't heal fast enough on your own.
It still counts as a suggestion, even if it only comes as one because of the update.
Anyway, this is more of a complaint than a suggestion.
