Thanks for all the replies. Keep it up :smile.gif:
I also think hostile mobs during the day is a bad idea. Part of the challenge of Minecraft is rushing through that first day trying to prepare yourself for the first night. Since the worlds are random and there is no real rhyme or reason to where you start, some people will find it incredibly hard when they start a new game in a hostile biome and end up having to restart their maps because of an unbalanced difficulty curve.
While I agree that hostile mobs during the day is a little harsh, day-time mobs don't necessarily have to spawn the very first day of the creation of the world. Maybe 3-4 days after the world was created it's fine. Besides, you can always switch to peaceful to despawn all the hostiles.
As far as modding goes, it's cool, but really bothersome, considering the rate at which we have MC updates. Besides, so far Mojang has failed to give us any sort of Mod API, therefore it's not very easy to mod.

Still doesn't work with SMP. People can join a server at any point. If you're going to have any sort of scaling difficulty, it can't be based on play time.
On the one hand, it would be cool to have some more biome-specific mobs. On the other hand, it's hard to give every single mob a purpose. At the moment, pigs and squids are slightly useless and I also think that certain mobs should spawn in certain places (e.g. sheep in plains, because there's much tall grass). It's also a bit sad that animals don't respawn at all. I would prefer it if at least one of the animals you killed respawned after maybe 10 minecraft days. Animals should also tend to stay where they spawned, so that they don't swim around in an ocean forever. The monster AI isn't finished either.
I don't like that they add so many things instead of fixing and balancing the stuff we already have and more mobs would cause even more implemented stuff and less finished stuff. So imo, they should at least finish the other mobs, before adding new ones.
I completely agree. It would be very difficult to add new mobs w/o them seeming very useless. They did a great job with the ocelot, but it's going to get harder.
With the aggressive mobs, it's best to just ramp up their damage and give them abilities they didn't have before, like spiders attacking during the day. It's amazing how when the mobs oppress you, the world feels larger and it takes a lot more time to progress. It's what made the game great in the first place, but I think even alpha needed some buffs on everything except skellies.
I'm one of those guys who feels you can NEVER have enough mobs. As long as they're balanced and each have unique uses (well, most of them at least) I think you could have up to 5 creatures unique to each biome.
Also something fun is putting a "rare spawn" into each biome, or at least some of them.
Basically a very rare creature that spawns very rarely (like 1% or 0.5%, Spider Jockey is 1%). Maybe this creature drops something really cool or can be tamed, or maybe it's just to add variety into the life you see. Because let's face it, excluding the new jungle and of course the Nether, if you've been in one biome, you've seen every creature Minecraft has to offer.
I always say I like the idea of more mobs, but it's always a problem when there are more in the picture and they don't give time to the older ones. Mo' Creatures made me vomit, 15 some odd creatures and they all drop the same thing and many had downright silly uses.
Some very uncommon mobs spawn in the regular world that few people know about. There are spider jockeys, zombie pigmen, and charged creepers. But the likelihood of these mobs spawning is so little that we never get to enjoy them as a threat.
Spider jockeys are uncommon but not necessarily rare. I do think the charged creeper and Frankenstein pig feature were completely pointless to add though, considering lightning storms don't happen too often and lightning hitting an entity is uncommon to boot.
I'm thinkin' monstrous articulated pythons... that would liven things up a bit. It could be a race between ones self and the pet wolf to gtfo of the rainforest before the squeeze. Seeing as how the wolf could run faster, I'm stabbing him in the brown eye. :wink.gif:
The reason why it seems lifeless, is because the Extreme Hills biome rarely has trees, and has a dark grass color. Pine forests grass is also too dark, and trees need to have more shape vareity (like some pines are tall, and some are "xmas tree" shaped)
This is why the Jungle seems full of life. Grass color and trees.
Mojang's main mistake was removing mob respawning, they should have just lowered the rate, now if your a hunter gatherer you have to travel a million miles away just to get some meat, unless you farm with wheat and ****, which quite frankly as rewarding as it is at first is kind of overpowered and gets boring over time. I do believe we need more mobs, aesthetic, useful or just plain stupid and put in there for shits and giggles (I'm looking at you snow golem!) Now, first things first, put passive mob respawning back in, that will pave the way to making the game full of life.
Now, here's a small list of which animals that I would love in minecraft: Sharks, crocodiles/alligators, bunnies, birds, goblins, pigmen with different functions ranging from attacking and griefing to being traders, ghosts, cave worms, and specialized undead mobs.

Good day to you sir, If I have assisted, and or pleased you in any way, please do click the green plus.
Now I see some people are concerned with the fact that every mob has to be useful in some way. I am just wondering, is something wrong with purely aesthetic mobs? I don't really think that it's going to clutter Minecraft too much, seeing as you can walk for chunks and chunks and barely see any wildlife at all.
Yes I would love to see more mobs. Especially ones that are dangerous during day time right now there is just creepers and spiders that happen to be left over from the previous night roaming around but a day time monster that is somewhat rarer then the rest such as a Troll possibly? (Then we can here trolls complain about trolls complain about trolls and be trollception here on MC forums)
Biome specific creatures would also be nice addition as said crocs and sharks would both be quite dangerous but at the same time avoidable. Game creatures such as Bears and Deer can be located in forests and such providing resources for possibly more recipes. Wouldn't mind if wolves and ocelots became hostile within a pack but alone they are tamable. How such is possible? no clue but would be nice if a wild wolf was threatening before I hit it.
I'd really like to have owls that come out at night. Mostly just for the ambiance it would bring to the forests, but they could drop feathers too if you really wanted to kill them.

The reason people don't like the idea of purely aesthetic additions to the game is that they really don't do anything for the actual gameplay, yet still eat up development time and money that could be spent actually fixing bugs or adding in new features which do have an impact on how we play the game. They also add to overhead on the game, which can hurt performance. Hardly seems worth it in a game like Minecraft, where the visuals obviously aren't the game's strongest element, to be spending time and effort adding an effect that some players will find cute the first time they see it and then tune it out from then on.
I would like to see the current mobs overhauled and made more difficult before new mobs are added. I would like to see the current mobs made to be more of a challenge.
I wouldn't mind "purely aesthetic" mobs. Rabbits that hop away frantically when you get near, snakes that wriggle around, birds that fly around in the air, deer... perhaps a rather powerful plains mob, a bison that can do a lot of charge damage but turns slowly... They could just drop a bone upon being killed, or maybe a %20 chance of obtaining some generic meat called "game."
That, along with a better sound engine that provides ambient sounds (something I think that's long overdue), leaves and grass that slowly blows in the wind, little details like that would help give the game more life.
I'd even be in favor of letting each mob have several different skins to choose from, like some mods that are already out there. Purely aesthetic.

There should be Nether villages with passive pigmen, the nether equivalent of the testificates, you give the weapon and the fook that ghast's ass!
Heck yeah. Also either the regular testificates should look more human-like or the Zombies look more testificate-like if that was implemented. It would make more sense as to where the Zombies are from if the ZP are just zombifies pigmen. Also I would LOVE to have the spawning retooled so that in the Overworld every 6 or so MC days the game checks your chunk and if there are no animals in the chunk the game checks the adjacent chunks, then the ones adjacent to those, and if there aren't any animals still, then the game should spawn 1-3 groups of animals in the checked chunks. And HECK YEAH biome-specific animals, even if just aesthetic ones.

Mo creatures adds too many mobs, and they are often unfitting to the vanilla game and essence.
We do need more mobs and plants, but this isn't VetinarianCraft.

Imagine what 1000's could do :C
Ever heard of the expression "too many chefs ruin the <insert food item here>"?
That's what would happen, I'm afraid. The game is a bit too nuanced for a whole pile of people to work on at once.
I certainly agree, though, that the team would do better with a couple of extra people.
