The problem with this, that a few people have mentioned, is that it makes wooden doors completly useless.
Instead of making a door to their base, people will just make a hole and fill it in behind them. They wouldn't bother making doors at all. Why would they when it is basically just a fancy hole in the wall mobs can get through?
I don't mind the idea of mobs breaking into your house, but allowing them to open doors isn't the way to do it.
Okay, so I think that they should implement the door-opening AI that the villagers have recently received with hostile mobs. I mean, once you light up your base and put a few doors, it's practically impossible to be killed. At least from within your base. I think if skeletons and zombies and such could open doors to get to you, it would make traps much more useful and add a challenging new aspect of survival.
Only zombies should be allowed to breaked down doors
why will I need to put a iron door on my wooden house?
ho yes it's because mobs can open wooden doors.
So now instead of using both doors, I will use only iron doors?
If you had to choose
between...
Having 1 diamond pickaxe in your inventory
Or having 4 iron pickaxes in your inventory ?
Why would i use iron if i have diamond
Why would i use stone if i have iron
Why would i use wood if i have stone
The Minecraft player is in constant evolution, that is why when you get the opportunity, you would use iron doors, but when it is like your first day in that minecraft world you would of course use wood as it is less resources wasted.
This will never happen. It literally makes all wooden doors invalid. Besides, even if this was implemented, people would just stack blocks in their doorways. This doesn't make anything more challenging, it's just an annoyance.

I use stone tools for pretty much everything and diamond for large projects.
Also iron tools "enchantability" is highter than diamonds tools, meaning that you can get higher/multiples enchantements easier on iron tools. In term of "enchantability" diamond come fourth only.
But anyway we aren't talking about tools in this topic, we are talking about doors blocks in a block building game.

Except any blocks in this game can do as much as "the most advanced door block".
Also keep in mind that not everyone love the look of the iron door, and since it would be pretty much the only option available, the iron door will be pretty much anywhere and that would be boring to see iron doors anywhere.

But iron doors and wooden are not the same. They are not used in the same way.
Wooden tools have the same function as iron tools and are used in the exact same way, it is just that iron tools are better.
however wooden doors and iron doors are not the same. They are not used in the same way and iron doors, and can't be thought of as 'better' wooden doors. Just because iron uses more advanced materials, doesn't mean it is a better object.
It's like comparing melons and pumpkins. Both objects are made the same way but they have different functions and cannot really be compared.
Do you see what I'm trying to say here?
Why only use a iron door when the options are endless.
My point is, don't make one of these options useless.
But it wouldn't be useless, you can still use wooden doors for exteriors as long as you have some small measure of defence in front of it. Like a fence with a gate in it.

The fence gate is pretty much a wooden door, but it's for fences(but you can use these for other things too.
If the mobs can enter wooden doors but not a fence gate, what's the point?
@ 'This would make wooden doors completely useless' comments...
No. You would use as few iron doors as possible and wooden ones for all other occasions. In my house for example I would have an iron door on the front and wooden doors everywhere inside.
Or perhaps with the new phases of the moon zombies could open doors during certain phases only. So far, this game is not at all challenging, and it would be wonderful to have this feature implemented. Currently, iron doors have no purpose in single player, and it would be fun to actually have some challenge. Once the player makes their dirt hit, they are invincible, and with this, the player would still have a few nights before zombies could open doors. Since there is such an abundance of iron now, finding 6 spare iron for a door shouldn't be too hard. And to those who say that this makes wood doors useless, it could take zombies a few seconds to open wooden doors and during this time the game would make some kind of beating noise to alert the player that the door was being opened. If not, I know that I would still use wooden doors inside my house.
Jon better be joking when he says he's making mobs smart enough to open doors. That just puts the point of the game for the past 10 versions of Minecraft down the shitter.

great idea makes a use for iron doors and all you people that say boring next idea well all the good ideas come together from lots of little ones so stop judging so roughly on people and this idea is great anyways people would make piston doors and stuff but who cares it lest the noobs with wooden doors get killed anyways cya peoplez :biggrin.gif:
I hate the Minecraft community because they make valid suggestions to make the game more interesting.
Also ITT:
I can contravene game mechanics so this idea is stupid.
To the people saying "well you could just put a dirt block in front of the door", you must be the same people who sit in their 3 block deep holes then put a block overhead when it turns nighttime.
To those saying it ruins the aesthetics, then think creatively, obviously you're playing the game in a creative way since aesthetics matters to you, so find a creative solution.
I think this is a good idea, and agree with the fact it should be only zombies that can do this. Maybe make it so mobs try to group up as well.
Then why not make it an option?
You know what amazes me about this board is that everyone here wants new features and such, but naturally there will be people to disagree. That's life, and that's okay. But instead of arguing on features as little as this, why not just make it an option? When you create a world, you choose the difficulty settings there, such as what the mobs can do, how hard they are, or whatever suggestions/ideas end up being added.
Just my two cents, and yes I think mobs being granted the ability to open doors would be pretty cool, I'd take that.
And yes I realize there's not much arguing in this topic, this for in general :tongue.gif:
The problem is that if we had an option for all these little things, the list of things to tick off would quickly get absurdly long.
Maybe they should add like, a blood moon kind of thing.
For those who don't know what a blood moon is, in a game called Terraria, every now and again the sky turns red, bunnies turn hostile, zombies can open doors, etc.
So, maybe something like that? But just all the time? No.

Put torches down, build a lava moat, FIGHT the mobs away, the options are endless.
If you don't want mobs, why not play on peaceful?
