I honestly can't believe there isn't more outrage other then "aw well that kinda sucks the pointless 1000 hours I spent gathering resources for my pointless house was made even more pointless"
There should be absolutely no reason we should have to start over an entire world after the official release. The people at Mojang are just incompetent and while the critcisms on thus can be debated back and forth there is just no way to defend scrapping your entire worlds constantly for minor updates.
THE ENTIRE POINT TO MINECRAFT IS YOUR WORLDS. RESTARTING WORLDS IS ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR FOR A PRE-RELEASE GAME YOU'RE TESTING. WE SHOULD NOT NEED THIRD PARTY PROGRAMS TO CUT AND PASTE OUR STRUCTURES INTO NEW WORLDS BECAUSE MOJANG ARE TOO INCOMPETENT TO CODE A F***ING LEAF CORRECTLY.
It's a testament to the developers lack of ability to have even the simplest of critical thinking. There is no guarantee for your creations because any time in the future they might decide the borders of the biomes need a little bit better trim and BAM, all new features from thus on in are completely irrelevant to your new world because you can't update to 1.222241.
I literally saw someone on this forum THANKING Jeb for his "smart move" on having us scrap our ENTIRE worlds that WE spent thousands hours creating countless structures and uploading them to youtube with grand tours giving Mojang tons and tons and tons of free advertising creating the throne of money he sits on today.... for a simple leaf decay bug that would happen because the leaves in the jungle are too far away from the original block.... This is acceptable in the gaming world today.....
Absolute horse **** and this is just another result of the modern gaming Unfinished Product business model to keep you dogmatically accepting it and taking it right up the backside.
Does Mojang have any idea what they're doing anymore?
Do we have any idea what were doing anymore?
Do fanboys ruin their own franchise by being Yes Men who lap at heels of developers they know nothing about personally and will delete and edit discussion on such, going againt all rules of adaptation and only the strognest survive leaving your product as a bloated mainstream P.O.S?
What is the point of all this?
Would we be having a more interesting time learning an instrument?
Why are you all so stupid?
EDIT:
Your forum posting rules are terrible I don't want to socialize with any of you. Well regardless my giant post answering your fanboy comments has been deleted because nobody likes losing and being told they are wrong. Especially mods : ( mods r gay amirite guyz?
Basically to sum up the points that I seemingly need to re-iterate to everyone because none of you can fully digest a post without doing a knee jerk reaction post and asking questions I have already answered in the OP.
1. Saying "LOL DONT UPDATE" seems like a really smart and obvious thing to say but let me tell you, it isn't and its making you look really stupid. You are all lacking severe foresight on what this means for Minecraft in a few years. This is BETA/ALPHA TESTING BEHAVIOR ESPECIALLY FOR A COMPANY WITH SUCH A MASSIVE PROFIT AT THIS POINT IN TIME. It's inexcusable and the only reason why are all excusing this is because Mojang still has the image of being an "indie" developer and the guys are just totally like us you know? So lay em slack bro yeah?
If this was EA or COD you would all be foaming at the mouth.
2. The initial code in this game is a massive black cloud that will follow it to it's grave. It will always effect your updates in the future and because of that none of your worlds are entirely future proof. Whether or not you want to justify that with "well thats how YOU play the game notI. I don't care about starting over on new worlds all the time for every cool new feauture" doesn't matter because the game is objectively flawed. THE CODE IS NOT A NATURAL FORCE WE HUMANS CAN NOT TAME. IT WAS PUT THERE BY THE SAME DEVELOPERS THAT ARE PUTTING OUT THE BUGS THAT WE JUST GOTTA TOTALLY DEAL WITH BRO.
3. You're wrong. It's ok to be wrong. Most people don't like to be wrong. But you are wrong FYI.
I honestly can't believe there isn't more outrage other then "aw well that kinda sucks the pointless 1000 hours I spent gathering resources for my pointless house was made even more pointless"

Thank god I deleted my first map.
I could've used mcedit anyway.
1. Jeb has worlds built so they will use the generator they use an not the newer one. This means that you would doesn't have to be started over.
2. Terrain generator is boring, the majority of people support it changing to be amazing. You aren't the most important person in the world. The common opinion is more important.
3. Terrain gen is changing because Noth, the old mc dev, was in my opinion lazy and did not make terrain generation what it could be, what Jeb is making it now.
4. If you still don't want to update, don't update and keep your old world.
3. Terrain gen is changing because Noth, the old mc dev, was in my opinion lazy and did not make terrain generation what it could be, what Jeb is making it now.
Jeb has made the new biome NOT SPAWN in OLDER WORLDS,
meaning no chunk areas.Every heard of MCEDIT,or SPC?
Are you sure about that? I don't see how he could have arranged that. And I hope it's not true anyway because I'd like to be able to find jungle biomes in new chunks of my current world.
nothing is forever. Just embrace the changes. I kind of enjoy starting from scratch. How long has it been since an iron vein excited you?
I'm trying to build a freaking awesome city. I'm not going to restart every time a minor addition is made to Minecraft's terrain generator. And I'm not down with MCediting my world into a new one. I build around the natural terrain, and I have many underground structures, so it would be more trouble than it's worth to transplant my entire city and mining system into a new world.
While the OP is overreacting to a hilarious degree, (s)he has a point. I'm not pleased that the terrain generation is receiving changes this soon after release. I pretty much stopped playing Minecraft for months because I wanted to start over on release day, so that I would know that my world would contain all the world features until the first expansion (which should have been many months off). Now, less than three months into the release version of Minecraft we've got changes to the world that put us in an awkward position, deciding whether to start over, transplant our worlds using 3rd party software, or miss out on new features.
That being said, I can't complain too much when awesome new content is added, and jungles do seem to have a lot of potential. I just wish that Mojang had either pushed back the release date or gotten this stuff done earlier. Meh.
I see why your out of the water :\.
Jeb has made the new biome NOT SPAWN in OLDER WORLDS,

They BOTH can get your creations into a new world easy, and+
the snapshots are OPTIONAL,same goes for updates.IF you want to keep your creations,
there are many 3rd party programs for keeping older versions of Minecraft and newer(Minecraft Profile Manager).
You do know this happens with every update right?Don't think that in the whole beta process people didn't
lose there maps.We all go past getting rid of a map.Just deal with it :\.Know what, forget that, stop playing Minecraft
if you dont understand the term "Updating".You think this is Cod?Heck no,this is a game that changes all the time, and yet it seems you can't go with the flow.I have lost many worlds with much progress because i wanted to update, and if you dotn want to use 3rd part software, guess what?Too bad.
Jesus christ look at this person
Everyone look at this person
This is a real person.
A real human being thought "Hey I know I have to use a third party program and scrap my countless worlds over and over again but hey just deal with it man. Hey can I put a COD reference in here to show how alt my gaming taste are and how LAMESTREAM COD is?"
News f***ing flash. This is literally worse then COD. If you can't use the jungle biome (which some other person so eloquently pointed out to me already ITT like the free thinker that that person obviously is) then you can't use any update after that for your world. It's over with. Your world is as irrelevant as your COD bashing. Honestly I think I'm arguing with a 12 year old which probably says a lot about me but I don't want people who think that what he's saying is legitimate and makes them feel validated for their crap opinions.
That "getting over" it thing is literally what causes them to do this over and over again. It was okay in the beta because it was a beta but what are Xbox owners going to use for mcedit (nvm xbox 0wners are so LAMEstream anyways! xD who cares!) You are all severely underestimating what this means for your worlds by this simple act of laziness.
Remember the part where Notch said to NEVER be attached to your world?
Remember when he said this quite a while ago?
OP doesn't.
I admit it is a pain to most people to have to start a new world. But honestly, before 1.2, Jeb might change it to make it so they DO spawn in old worlds. I believe he said that there were various bugs that would occur if he did it that way, but bugs can be fixed.
That's really all I have to say on this. I feel sorry for people that have to do all kinds of complicated MCEditing to make things work, but it's entirely possible that your worlds would break if you tried updating like normal and keeping your old worlds, if Jeb is correct.
But give him time and see if he CAN make them work in old worlds. 1.2 isn't out yet, so the future isn't certain.
(above post)
1.Notch is coming back
2.Who created the game from scratch and listened to everything he got and had all the PRESSURE ON HIM?
Dont call Notch lazy if he is the one who created most of the features with Jeb and Mojang :\
And no he was NOT lazy in 1.8 terrain gen,he made the system mroe easy to change so modders can change and when he wanted to chasnge it he could, that he did in 1.0,then Jeb make some more improvements.
Either you can't read or didn't read thoroughly. You responded to 2 when you meant to respond to 3.
He was most definitely lazy. It Jeb only 1 week to make the jungle, it took months for Notch to make flat, large sand dunes and plains.
The updates before thad took forever and only added one thing.
"Most of the features" we're added in alpha/early beta, when Notch wasn't lazy.
Notch made game day Fridays for god sakes! (I do approve of this, I like the idea, but it can show laziness...)
Didn't Notch say, "Don't get too attached to your worlds."?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I was going to give you a +1, but then I saw your signature say, "If I helped you in any way, just click that plus sign over there!" So then I didn't give you your +1.
Reporting for the last comment you made
1.COD sucks,thats why it's in there :\
2.I am 12,but at least i put up a good argument
3.I dont use MCEdit,as i can handel giving up my world for new terrain
4.Don't update then
5.Xbox360 users (like me) will deal with it,as im pretty sure they will find a way around
I am 12
Okay now realize this people
Your support for this is now on the same level as 12 year olds
Think about it. I know this isn't fair to the kid but for actual people who spent their own money on the game who understand the value of a dollar, discuss.
Honestly I'm probably the oldest one here. But there seems to be absolutely 0 discussion on the future of Minecrat and what this means for the permanency of the one thing that matters in this game, worlds.
Remember the part where Notch said to NEVER be attached to your world?
Remember when he said this quite a while ago?
OP doesn't.
Notch said that during beta (or maybe alpha, I don't remember). Minecraft is now a released game. It's no longer acceptable to suggest that we should just not get attached to our worlds. I don't want my worlds held hostage by Minecraft's constantly changing mechanics and terrain. It's really annoying, and it discourages me from actually investing my creativity and efforts to make something cool in my world since I know there's a chance I'll lose it or be significantly inconvenienced if I don't want to lose it.
Are you sure about that? I don't see how he could have arranged that. And I hope it's not true anyway because I'd like to be able to find jungle biomes in new chunks of my current world.

the transition between whatever gen ur current world has to 1.2 is gonna look just as bad as if u mcedit ur stuff into a 1.2 world
They deliberately made sure that your worlds would NOT break because of this update. I didn't hear you whining about how awful it was to not have jungles before Jeb started posting pictures, so clearly your game is not broken just because you don't have them in your old world by default. You never would have said a world if jungles were never put in the game at all, yet you're willing to go on a pointless strike when they're made available without breaking your worlds.
There should be absolutely no reason we should have to start over an entire world after the official release.
