I too greatly enjoy this change. I don't mind not being able to stand on ladders as I only use them while constructing. They aren't to aesthetically appealing, so I usually end up removing them and using stairs. LADDERS ARE CHEAPER TO MAKE THAN SIGNS. It's settled.
It also makes tall ladders a pain in the ass to deconstruct. Currently, you can stand on top of the ladder and break it down, as if it were a dirt column. With this change, you have to be holding onto the ladder to break it, which reduces your breaking speed considerably.
This is unfortunate. Really, I think trapdoors need fixing more than ladders. I keep hitting my head on the edge of open trapdoors, and placement is annoying.

He mostly did this because about 40% of the tweets Notch and Jeb get say "FIX THE LADDERS". 1 year later, someone is finally smart enough to give an actual description of what it means.
I never knew there was any problem with ladders. I prefer to be able to stand on ladders, but it's good to see that a lot of people are happy with this update. :smile.gif:
I'm pretty sure there is still something wrong with the hitbox on the top of ladders with 1.0.0. I have a really long drop into one of my mines and then 2 ladders right above the ground to stop me from splatting against the ground. This has always worked but randomly one time last night, I died when I hit the top of a ladder:
Ladders cost less than sign and THEY STACK! No more crafting and transporting 10+ ladders at a time, placing them and crafting more during water manipulation in traps and item/mob transportation!
I don't think you can jump while holding shift on ladders, which is a disadvantage. There's also the slowed breaking speed that was mentioned, which makes ladders a pain to deconstruct.
I think this change did more harm than good.

I prefer the old ladder mechanics. I logged into Minecraft after updating and couldn't leave my house without breaking my trapdoor and adding another ladder because I can no longer stand on top of them.
Adding a block above my cubby just so I can keep using the trapdoor would make it ugly and removing the trapdoor entirely would make my cubby susceptible to monsters from above. ****.

Help us at soartex.net!
Or is it still possible?

I'm sure this was his intention :tongue.gif:
Fence gates work for my anti-liquid needs.
Agree that trap doors are really annoying.

Funny that using ladders as physics exploits takes precedence over ladders being useful as ladders.
