I am new to the game, and enjoying it so far. I love reading as much info as I can about most topics , and games are no exception. I have read about mining efficiency, and that lays 12-14 are great, unless lapis is desired, then 14-15 is optimal. My question is how do I know where I am in the layers? Do I just dig to bedrock & once I see the first layer (the sporadic bedrock layers) count up from that as layer 1?
That does not seem correct, but I am new, so...
If it is an addon thing that is required to know where you are, is there non-addon way to get a good idea of where you are?
If you press F3 on your keyboard (For some you may have to hold FN while doing this) text and some graphs will pop-up on your screen. If you look in the top-left, where a lot of numbers and text are, you should see something like:
X : 323.128935719823743
Y : 15.0187239857120092
Z : -177.93251829735879
(The numbers are going to be different)
These three numbers are called your coordinates. The X and the Z values represent the north/south and the east/west directions from the origin of the map (0,0) you are currently at. The Y value shows the elevation, or layer, you are at. This can help you determine which layer you are at.

A simple trip to the minecraft wiki would have saved us all a thread, but anyways, Welcome to minecraft :smile.gif: Always carry plenty of wood so you can craft pick axes.... it sucks running out of pickaxes when you are at the very bottom in some cave with no way back up.
