No one is complaining about the new system armor uses for protecting.
People are complaining about how much Iron and Diamond protect you, however. Iron makes even "Hardcore" into Easy and Diamond makes it Survival Creative Single Player.
I agree with all of your statements, except the "ores are harder to find" one, what i think they should also do is make that disgusting dimension, "the end" better. I find the lack of detail in that dimension depressing.
Survival mode on hard setting or hardcore mode is not a challenge once you get iron and armor and I can accomplish that on day one. This game is way too unbalanced. With iron armor I literally ignore creepers while I'm mining and let them explode right next to me. Who cares, they don't hurt me much and my health regenerates so fast it doesn't matter. I can always find tons of ore so when my armor depletes I simply build a new set from my many stacks of iron.
At night I go out and can usually get 10 to 15 levels of orbs from just running around killing mobs. So really the whole enchanting thing is broke because it's too easy to gain orbs. Essentially there is no challenge to this game. Just menial resource collecting. Once the you have all the resources it gets boring fast.
What I read in this petition is to turn the game into a masochist's paradise so I kindly vote NO.
No offense to the OP, but that is what you are communicating. Don't worry, I won't criticize and run, I'll explain it and offer a solution that hopefully meets everyone's needs.
I (like I am sure you as well) have been playing video games for a long time so I know about old school RPGs where you had to grind endless hours to gain 1 point in a skill. As awful as it sounds, the reward when you got that point was awesome! It gave you a sense of achievement and it was satisfying! The problem is that your solution in this post is sadly selfish because there is a side effect that you may not be aware you are causing. The issue here is that not everyone gets a sense of satisfaction out of grinding. Please no one bother arguing that "grinding" is not the issue here because it is what is at the heart of this thread. Calling the game "easy" or that finding materials is "easy" simply means that it used to take you a while, now it doesn't, and you are jealous that folks who have no patience can now get the things you used to get.
Did anyone catch that last statement I underlined? That is what is happening here. The OP isn't a bad person, we all think it, even me! In gaining a sense of achievement, a notable method is finding an edge up where you are able to do something that you know most people can't. Having the patience to stick it out is a trait that not everyone has so those that have that trait love to congregate there because that is where they get their sense of achievement.
So all that being said, my point is that, the OP and others who agree, need to understand that this is the normal evolution of games. The only way to get more people to play your game is to appease to their play styles and unfortunately for you, not everyone likes the grind. The 1.0 patch is a great patch because it opens the door to a giant set of gamers! It should not be removed or taken back to the old way.
So let me at least do my part and offer a counter-solution. I would propose that Mojang instead tweak the difficulty setting to incorporate people of different play styles. Hard core mode should have programmed into it more than just tougher monsters. Ore should be more rare, armor should be weaker, plus any other thoughts people have. In this way, the folks with less patience can play the game on peaceful or normal mode and still get a game mode where they can play for a half hour and get what they want. Then the folks who want the challenge can play on hardcore and get the true challenge that they want.
I don't know really if that would work, but I do have a pet-peeve against folks who complain or criticize complainers and never offer their own solution. Take that as you want.
Mobs are hard to kill? Maybe if you are regular creative mode player that just now started survival. Iron armor is all the armor you need, everything will do half a heart of damage to you.
Ores? They are supposed to be hard to find. It's Minecraft. Iron is easy to find though, Diamond usually takes a little while to find and gold seems oddly a little more rare then diamond.
Do you really, HONESTLY think that mobs are hard? Just get full iron and they can't hurt you at all.
Ore is not rare at all. You can get a stack of iron in only about 10 minutes.
Don't insult people pr their ideas. Nobody is insulting you.
You can most certainly still get hurt with full iron. Sure, any single mob is zero-threat, but you get ganged up on, and you can still get seriously injured. Plus, your armor isn't invincible. One ugly silverfish incident in a stronghold took my full iron armor to basically broken, where I subsequently got raped by a creeper after a few additional mob encounters destroyed what was left of it.
It does protect you substantially, but at the cost of needing a constant supply of iron, and the attention to continually maintain it.
Not to be crass and tactless, but the bottom line is that the game is fine the way it is, and your petition is stupid.
I want the game to be harder (with options..) because it's more fun to play on SMP but it's easier.. :sad.gif:
And when i try to get mods that'll make the game harder i only find mods that include over powered mobs (.etc)
I think the game should be more challenging.. (like Terraria) i'm not saying minecraft should rip-off terraria but most of the games in these days are challenging and skill needing games... (not saying add guns and that crap)
but to be honest i like the new bow n' arrow and i'm waiting for an update that will make the bow enchant-able!
i remember that Jeb mentioned it once.... :smile.gif:
Mobs are already hard enough. Ore are rare enough. Even too rare.
Your petition is retarded.
Hell if I'm going to sign that stupid rag.
First of all, if you find mobs too hard, .
Second, ores are far more common than in previous versions (though this isn't really an issue). You have eyes? Look around a cave. I'm sure you'll find enough to make a suit of Iron Armor within an hour or less.
Heck, I blatantly suck at Minecraft combat and I find the game so ridiculously easy once I get Iron Armor. I don't have to improve my combat skills, or even care if a Creeper blows up next to me (even on Hard mode).
It may come as a surprise but many players are not hardcore.
And a stack in 10 mins? When are you going to post that vid?
He was exaggerating, but Iron isn't exactly hard to find. Just today, I went spelunking for about an hour in a yet unexplored, small part of an abandoned mineshaft and came home with a stack and a half of Iron. I just looked around.
The point he was trying to get across is that it isn't hard at all to get a stack of Iron, not how fast you could do it.
Also "Hardcore"? Pfft. I had my speakers muted and had three creepers blow up on me while I was digging some stuff. I didn't even come close to dying because of my Iron Armor. You don't have to be "Hardcore" to see just how ridiculously strong Iron Armor has become since Beta 1.8.1. May I point you to the video in my last post above?
Calling the game "easy" or that finding materials is "easy" simply means that it used to take you a while, now it doesn't, and you are jealous that folks who have no patience can now get the things you used to get.
No, it means that Jeb/Notch completely ****ed up armor and ore rates on Minecraft 1.0.0, which has been confirmed.

Cry a river. Punch a tree. Craft and build a wooden bridge over the river. Use your bridge to GET OVER IT.
I think the main two things are iron/diamond armor and the dragon.
Leather armor protects an okay amount, fairly okay against enderman.
Iron is far more powerful then leather(easier to find) and diamond is nearly invincible(not including stupidity: falling, poisons etc.)
The dragon is the last boss but it still only does 1 1/2 hearts of damage to un-enchanted iron in hard mode. Didn't they say even with enchants it would be hard, yeah riiight. Not only that, after you destroy a couple of endercrystals it doesn't damage you at all.
Mob damage was never the problem. Try fighting skeletons/enderman naked with a sword. If you get hit, you get chunked. Leather pads you fairly good but you still get damaged adequately. Iron and Diamond damage calc. needs a good fixing.
/sign if I didn't already
Edit: forgot my main point:
easy should be challenging for beginners
normal should be challenging for 2-weekers
hard should be challenging for anyone still seasoned
I play on normal, basically hard mode.Armor is balanced,as things in Minecraft dont have to make sense.SO your saying, you want a fix for armor because it is OP,yet you dont want to take it off because its OP?That makes no sense.
It deserves to be fixed so I don't have to take it off.
Go ahead, play on Normal. You're never going to die (except by your own stupidity, of course) as soon as you put on a set of full Iron Armor.
There's no challenge to surviving at all on any difficulty. Just put on Iron Armor.
Considering iron is easy to find, and should remain so with what it is needed for besides armor, then what should be nerfed is the durability. Armor should help keep you alive, but also shouldn't be as lasting as adamantium. Since we also have the ability to repair, this would help balance it out.
When you have been exploring abandoned mines or nether fortresses for a while, taking some hits from cave spiders or blazes, among other mobs, it should become apparent that your awesome defense is only going to last so long. Once your armor breaks, that leaves you very vulnerable to what is out there. Without armor, mobs do a heck of a lot of damage.
I'd think that would be the ideal trade-off. Leave armor protection as it is, just reduce how long it lasts.

Nah, not caught up in it, so to speak... it's just fun. You should give it a try! :smile.gif:
