(in a new map)
1. find a lake(you will, I p[romise you)
2. Get seeds(like 3-5 for your first day)
3. Plant seeds
4. Plant more when they grow, and kill only as many animals as you need instead of mass-murder.

note: Then I mention a group of people in my posts, i mean the majority of information i have seen from that group, and my statement may not be accurate for every individual in that group.
We shouldn't have to stoop that low. Once we go through the trouble of walking halfway across the map with wheat or goddamn animals shouldn't de-spawn! I get the feeling that people posting responses like this aren't actual "farmers"
That's a little extreme don't you think? lol I gave up on wasting my time to get animals only so they de-spawn. I just use that space now for a huge wheat farm.
Cows: Renewable source of armor, that due to breeding can be contained/concentrated.
Chickens: Since zombies no longer drop feathers, the only two ways to get arrows are massacring skeletons (with the rare exception you get a skeleton spawner, AND make a farm out of it), or kill chickens. Being able to concentrate the chickens will supply you with food and feathers for arrows.
Sheep: Sort of useless, unless a building project requires a lot of wool.
Pigs: A way to farm for food, if you don't feel like farming wheat, and you haven't found melon seeds.
I have noticed how annoying and pointless animal breeding is. I liked it better when animals spawned and you didn't have to worry about killing animals. I liked in beta where you could just walk around and not worry about animals not respawning. It takes a big aspect out of the game. In my opinion, this needs to be fixed before biomes. It is annoying and it takes a big thing out of the game. I think we can all agree with this. I like a lot of things they added in 1.0 just not the animal breeding.

When animal breeding was introduced in the game, Notch made it where the game had a real feel of farming other than just growing wheat, watermelons and pumpkins. It makes it feel a little more like Survival. Here's the rest of my opinion: Stackable foods (except for bowls of stew which don't stack) was a mistake as it makes it too easy to survive in caves, travelling, etc. Hunger was introduced at the same time to balance it out, but wasn't completely balanced then, and that's where animal breeding comes in! You have to gather animal and let them have babaies and let them grow up. Since they don't really respawn, you can't just go around killing them, you'll eventually run out in which you'll be in trouble unless you have a wheat or watermelon farm. So in conclusion to my opinion- Hunger, animal breeding and stackable foods are now completely balanced! :smile.gif: ...unless Jeb wants to add more to the balance :wink.gif:
Minecraft is mostly a SURVIVAL GAME. Yes there is building and adventuring, but survival mode was just too easy, all you had to worry about was health, thats it.
I personally like the new features, they add more depth and hardness into the game, more consequences too. These new features also help my servers economy. Now the needs of hunger drive the market forward, the rarity of animals in some areas makes more demand for meat, and more sales.
Wait, just because you don't like something and many many other people do, you think that that feature NEEDS to be taken out of the game to satisfy just YOU
Animal breeding is great, I can take 2 pieces of lapis lazuli and dye 2 sheep blue, and then i have an infinite supply of blue wool, so i can turn the rest of my lapis lazuli into glorious lapis lazuli blocks!! MWHAHAHAHA
My only problem with animal breeding is that some form of farming is FORCED in order to maintain full hunger. Also, with the adventure update, Notch/Jeb have been increasingly straying from what made the game popular, mining, crafting, building, and the fact that it was a sandbox (which it still is), which at the time Infdev/Alpha was around, it was one of a kind. Now it's more of a sandbox RPG and less unique. My main problem with the game is not about animal breeding at all: It's the sheer lack of things to do once you've gotten diamond gear. You could explore, but you're just looking at the same biomes with flat, boring terrain. Sure you could build stuff, then what? You get to look at it, I guess. You find an NPC village! Now what? You get to look at it, I guess.
Also, I forgot to mention this, but I think that leather armor needs to buffed severely. It should be like Iron is now, Iron is rediculously common and basically puts you in god mode.

Users lack the mental capacity to have intelligent discussion, and mods lack the mental capacity to make intellegent decisions... I give up trying to share my intelligence with the world.
While animal breeding may have some flaws, it most certainly should not be removed from the game. I think it would be a good idea to have herds of animals that have some sort of alpha, in order to breed the animals, you must fight and kill the alpha. I also think they should breed naturally as all the animals die eventually due to walking of cliffs and into lava.

Wanna know Jack Sparrow's favorite country?
Somalia. Because it puts the ARRRR in anarchy! DOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOH.
It's not like you'll ever run out of animals for food, since chickens are a renewable resource without breeding, since they can be created from eggs. That's the easiest way to farm, just throw a bunch of eggs into a pen.
The breeding doesn't take anything away from the game, you just have to be careful, or walk farther to find animals and lead them back.
The point is that farming requires time, first you have to plant and harvest your wheat, then you have to feed the animals so they breed and wait for the cooldown and for the baby animals to become adult in order to keep breeding.
There are also some glitches and annoying things that i explained some pages ago like parents following they babies and ignoring the wheat, animals going through the fencegates, the fact that you cant target a single or a specific group of animals to take them out an dof course baby animals ignore the wheat. Those are just examples.
Now going back to the timing, you have to wait all that time adding the time you spend mining, exploring, building, planning, chopping trees etc... In total making the "house chores" takes too much time and in the end you dont play the game, you work.

Animals don't despawn...
...Seriously- Please don't breed.
-Problem solved
I like it, how the **** animals breed with wheat? Animals dont wait for your permission to ****!
Here's why:
Cows: Renewable source of armor, that due to breeding can be contained/concentrated.
Chickens: Since zombies no longer drop feathers, the only two ways to get arrows are massacring skeletons (with the rare exception you get a skeleton spawner, AND make a farm out of it), or kill chickens. Being able to concentrate the chickens will supply you with food and feathers for arrows.

I find it's useful...In desert.

Time to let this thread die and accept the fact that your the minority on this one.
Wheat is fast and efficient.
Farming just makes for convenient egg/feather and wool farms.

Because YOU make them respawn, with breeding. Also they dont despawn anymore.
