Since the first version of 1.9 pre, I've had the same problem with my worlds. After I've spent countless resources and effort, not to mention TIME in my world, the map just decides to re-chunk and destroy or damage the things I've done.
I've had NPC villages re-chunking houses on top of houses and houses I've made from the ground up lose a huge piece or stone and dirt spawning inside my creations and swapping the blocks that used to occupy those spaces with stone and dirt or even air...
Just NOW, as in 5 minutes ago, I leave my home and head to my branch mine, which is practically next door to my house and spend a few hours digging for diamonds. I decide I've had enough and go to climb up the mineshaft to see how my farms are doing and to take a break from mining.
When I'm almost to the top of my ladder, I hit something... (Oh... sh*t...) I say to myself and lo and behold I look up to find my mineshaft plugged with stone at around 50 depth... I dig out to the surface... The whole cabin my mineshaft was made in is gone, replaced with a piece of dirt and stone... Surely my house is fine, let me just go OHMYGOD FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY! HALF THE DAMN HOUSE IS GONE!! the half that disappeared was conveniently the one with my DAMN ORE CHEST! Including 23 diamonds from DAYS on that branch mine!
The NPC village nearby now has houses on top of other houses, houses with huge chunks missing... I used to have chickens all around my home, now there are cows everywhere, even though I hadn't seen a single one since I generated the world...
You know what is REALLY alarming? That you don't hear about this damn problem enough here in the forums, which makes me think no one is working on a fix. Also we are 3 days from realease, I'm playing RC2 and IT HASN'T BEEN FIXED!
Can at least someone tell me if you've had the same problem, if it was a texture pack, a mod... (I only use Rei's minimap) or WHAT THE HELL IS IT?
Notch, Jeb or whoever... for the love of Jebus, if this doesn't get fixed, what point is there to a game where you can't commit into a project or build anything if it's going to get all screwed up WHILE THE GAME IS RUNNING! I mean, this happened without me taking a break off the game. It happened while I was playing!
Please, comment and + this thread to see if SOMEONE that can fix this will read it and FIX IT! GAAAAAAHH!!! :angry.gif:
The only thing I can think of is that if you have enough memory (or a second system), try running it as separate client and server.
I had lots of reliability and crashing issues with old Alpha versions, which would corrupt my map any time the SSP client crashed. By splitting it up to client and server, the client did continue to occasionally crash, but the server would remain running, unaffected by the client. I never had any map corruption issues after that.
Now this just made my scared about my personal map :ohmy.gif:, gonna back it up everyday..
That's just the problem... Backing up the map doesn't help because it happens to me while in the game. While the game is running... without quitting the game or anything.
Also, this is on SSP, so there are no network or server problems to speak of...

Happened on my cousin's vanilla server. Corrupted out custom map. Gave me angry face.
It's called different map gen. Not that hard of a concept: In one place, the game is told to make the terrain one way, in another place, where it's generating new chunks, it has new instructions on how to maker it. Therefore some stuff is all screwy.
Reinstalling windows is never 'due'. It's just the only solution a noob can think of when it can't find the problem.
Wrong, sometimes is more troublesome to go about fixing all the problems and it's easier to wipe the slate clean. Plus sometimes 'fixing' one problem can cause another and you can do a lot of chasing. Like when a car is totaled. Don't worry though, we get it, you're a big bad internet pro.
As for the topic of the thread. Have your reinstalled Java? There could be an issue with Java tarding out and Minecraft isn't able to find out reliably what chunks it has generated and which ones it hasn't. Also, just in case, make sure to run Minecraft.exe as admin (Right click icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Check 'Run this program as Administrator').
This sounds like something in your .jar was screwed up, try reverting back to 1.8.1 and then re install the RC2 .jar. If that doesn't do anything, I'd try posting this in Mojang's GetSatisfaction.
I've had a similar situation happen a couple of times, and it caused me to loose my world because it became so corrupt. In my case though the game would randomly lock up everything. I mean the game is locked as well as the computer. I had to do the nasty reboot. The last time this happened was in 1.9.6. Everything locked up, then I reset. Start the game again and half my home is a pile of dirt blocks like it was never there to begging with. I look off into the forest and I see some activity. I go to investigate and Im stunned. Hundreds and hundreds of cows. I hit F3 to check the entity count and its around 3000. OK, dont have to worry about food any more. As I keep playing there are more and more cows spawning and now Im lagging. Not good since I have a brand new computer with a high end gfx card and 16G ram. Now my frame rate is down 1 or 2 fps. Check the entity count again and its over 10000. Another world lost. I sure hope this doesnt happen with the 1.0 release
Sorry no screen pics from me as I've already deleted these worlds and started a new one. Besides, Notch did say Dont Get Too Close To Your World. If it does happen again I will take some screen shots. It was pretty comical to see so many cows. Even more comical was when I pulled out the wheat. Hundreds of cows following me. I wish I had a video of it....
In 1.8 everything was fine...
Then 1.9 pre came along...

I will post screenies after I come back from work, sadly running late now, but you'll see them...

I've never seen anything like this in any of my worlds but it sounds like some is very very wrong.
FIXED
Sorry, I couldn't resist, lol
