Yeah , The End , of your main goal , that means it is the new beggining for you future goals.
Also , you can just press ESC to skip the credits, which are just a poem , with the names of the people that worked on minecraft , the people that worked on minecraft deserve some recognizition on their game , they deserve atleast that.
Take the End as you want
But if you take the end as the end of minecraft then you are just making things harder for you
If you think the end is the end of minecraft :
Aaahhh , No , no endings in the game , im going to complain in the forums!
If you think the end is just another goal :
Yeah! , I beat that dragon , im so boss , now i will finish that castle i´ve always wanted to build, i will make a thread about how awesome my experience with the dragon was , NOTCH IS AMAZING!
I know its just another goal. Notch said he was going to add a near impossible way to beat minecraft, and this was it. Beating minecraft is just another goal. But the community wont recognize that. Pretty soon when everyone gets the new update, the goal of minecraft will shift to the general consensus that slaying the ender dragon is the new main goal. And at the end of the day, even if you don't think so, this largely influences your experience of the game due to its high social dependency.

The only features I care about in 1.9 are: breeding. The rest is pointless and boring. I think mojang could have worked on the things that made this game unique (like the things you mentioned) and add more/improve them, but they chose not to, instead they choose to waste their time on this 'end' and pseudo-adventure features that we now see are a mess and poorly done.
Eh, I think the whole concept kind of ruins the point of Minecraft.
Minecraft isn't supposed to end, there isn't supposed to be some 'end goal' you can reach, hence why it;s considered sandbox.
I don't like the whole final boss idea either, I thought, when boss mobs were added to Minecraft, they would basically be very rare, strong, hostile mobs capable of destroying terrain and all that, something to really look out for. But this, this is just stupid, I don't like the idea of intentionally building a portal in a pre-built dungeon, (which doesn't fit with the theme of Minecraft either) and fighting a boring boss in a lifeless, unrecognizable environment in order to access the credits, it just doesn't fit with Minecraft.
This whole 'you beat the boss, the end lol' concept is just stupid if you ask me.
It matters to me what the general consensus people establish as the play style/purpose of the game is. Pretty much, this general consensus creates its reputation. Not their specific play style. That's the whole point of the release, you know.

If this is the only way to access the credits, why shouldn't it be considered a final boss? Just because you can continue afterwards doesn't mean you haven't beat the game.
And I don't think Minecraft should have some 'final goal', I like the idea of making your own goals.

I say it is not a final boss , just a boss because you can keep playing
And , even if it not the final boss , it makes sense that it will appear after killing the dragon because as of now that is the only goal made by notch.
He cant make the credits appear after you build your house , or your castle , or get a diamond.
Minecraft is a sandbox game, that's what it has been defined as, it doesn't need goals, goals don't make sense.
You spawn in a world completely your own, you can shape and destroy it to your liking with no limits, you can do whatever you want, inserting a random necessary goal into this will only degrade from the overall experience, the focus will no longer be on doing whatever you want, and sharing those creations with others, the focus will now be on who beats the magical dragon first.

Is not a "neccesary goal " just a goal you can try to do , or just keep playing the game as it is meant to be played.
The same if you dont want to build a tower , dont build it , go build a castle , or vice-versa.
The game has still its sandboxiness , but some extra ingredient to make it even better.
But those creations wouldn't matter anymore, a defined goal would ruin the purpose of doing anything else, now everything you'd do would have to be focused towards that goal, otherwise it'd be pointless.

Well , im playing on MC 1.9 beta PR6 and i dont find any problem or anything that stops me from building what i want.
My progress :
The dragon hasnt stopped me at all from building ,farming and mining , i dont really care about the dragon right now , i have not crafted a single endereye , i dont how the enderdragon boss fight interrupts you from your average minecraft activities.
If you think the dragon is such a big deal that it will stop you from doing other stuff in the game , then that is ur problem , because it is not affecting me , it is not affecting other users , everyone is playing as they would play in 1.8 , in 1.7 , even in indev , just build and survive.

It would only be a defined goal if in the game it told you to go kill the ender dragon. Regardless of that it is just as optional as building a castle.

The Elder Scroll series would like to have a talk with you. Defeat Mehrunes Dagon in Elder Scrolls: IV and I dare you not to play the game any more after that.
Not my point :tongue.gif:

Who are you to tell us this, No one knows this yet, maybe Notch has another idea in his head, and maybe that idea is to Just give up on Minecraft!
