I really like the added variation in terrain generation, but is anyone else finding it a little bit too erratic? I'm not personally a fan of the amount of cave mouths and pits that are opening up at the surface. The biomes also seem a bit small and cluttered up against one another.
I'd rather see larger, spaced out biomes so I can build a larger city/town and not worry about crossing over into a new color scheme. Does anyone else feel the same?
Less like "complaining" more like voicing displeasure with changes, which is acceptable.
Personally I do somewhat agree, it feels eccentric at times, but for the most part I like it alright. I do wish that the spawning of Abandoned mines would be fixed so as not to oddly intersect with ravines, but I have faith it will be amended with time.

The biome size was increased in the 1.8/1.9 terrain generator, so you must have hated the old biomes. Unless that was false information, but it seems to be true based on my experiences.

Yup. My thoughts exactly. Can't go more than 20 tiles in any direction without finding yet another cave/ravine/shaft to hell.
Also it's hard to even build a modest house that doesn't cross a biome boundary, let alone a town.
all these cave openings seem, strange, but not that annoying
i see what you mean with the biome thing, i have once or twice had three biomes on screen at once, it just looked.. silly..
i think it's all a little too flat though, i like big mountain clusters and such, and i remember them being everywhere, now though, like 2/3 of the seeds i start, flying around in creative mode for a few minutes, i cant even FIND a mountain.
The new biomes are less interesting overall. They tried to improve "adventure" with cave entrances everywhere, but removing the great land formations.

Yeah, mountains are a biome of their own now. You'll never get a lush forest covering a mountain, or a canyon shock full of trees anymore. I definitely think some of the old randomness should be put back in regardless of biome. What we have now works very well to create a very balanced gameplay experience. There's not really such a thing as a "bad" seed anymore (unless you end up spawning in the middle of the ocean), but on the flipside it's also much harder to find unique-looking features now. That's a shame since Minecraft's diverse terrain generation has always been one of its most impressive features.
Oh, and yes, ravines are about ten times more common than they should be...
*Far to many ravines
*Abandoned mine shafts still seem a little to abundant
*To many swamps
*No transition time between "harsh" biomes and regular biomes. This causes REALLY ugly transitions in the grass and trees. (Deserts and Swamps)
*Deserts in general need more work, less chance of pools of water, These should be limited to oasis.

I really miss the older terrain generation, back before biomes were even introduced, there were far more beaches and plains then there are now and the mountainsides seemed more sensible then what I see generated everywhere now.
I agree that caverns are way too abundant. Clay went from being ultra rare to being ultra common, why couldn't they just become slightly more common?
and where did our beaches go? I rarely if ever see a sandy beach in 1.9 pre4, some little sandy lakes here and there but stuff all beach side.
I think the generation would be awesome if it was 40 percent what it is now and 60 percent what it was like prior to biomes being introduced, back when it was rare to see lava lakes and when you could actually find nice mountain chasms full of stone and waterfalls.
I noticed the biomes have gotten larger, but I dont think they're large enough yet either. We have oceans and rivers and tonnes of swamp now but mangled mountains, too many little surface crater lakes and no beach.
I saw a Poll in a different thread asking what parts of the terrain generation the community wanted to see improved and to my shock beaches and more original terrain generation was one of the least voted options. :sad.gif:
I dont generally post complaint posts, but do agree with the posters in here regarding the current terrain generation /rant
cut ravines and mineshafts down heavily and I don't mind any, but as it is I've had one world where I didn't dig straight down and find one or the other or more often even both.
Need:
Beaches
Snowy mountains
tree-ey mountains
desert hills
taiga
less ravines
less abandoned mines
more spawning on beaches
The spawning is so effed up right now. Imagine buying the game at release, and you know nothing about minecraft. You click singleplayer, spawn your first world, and your in the middle of the ocean. WTF?
I too do dearly miss the original terrain generation. Back when finding something out of the ordinary was always something mindblowing, whereas now these strange formations are not only less structurally awe-striking and less common but also generated on purpose, and therefor making it less of a surprise. It also clashed with the old forested mountains and lava falls off of islands or entire beaches of gravel and gravel on the floor of shallow lakes. Now we have deep water with large cutoffs in depth with abandoned mineshaft and ravine entrances on the bottom. Im not aware of other peoples preferances, but i find these quite unattractive, and i do hope that later patches will fix such problems. I don't do a lot of complaints on the forums, and i hope my constructive criticism will not fall upon deaf ears

Ever hear about the guy who almost died from a paper cut he got from a waiver? It's alright though, he signed it.
The way biomes work need to be more realistic too. Its silly how deserts can be anywhere, they really should rarer then they are and should only occur on large land masses and only have a small part of the biome exposed to sea. the way they are now is not realistic, and I know the game is not intended to be realistic but it just throws me how you can find sea and ice biomes right beside a desert with no taiga or tundra to be seen

As soon as you stop being an ass. Thanks for the feedback, though.

Way to be a ****, hell this is one of the very few LEGITIMATE concerns to have.
Also there is nothing wrong with giving feedback.
and the grass doesnt look very green anymore. It doesnt look vibrant like it used to.
So, yeah, the terrain generation could use a tweak or two.

That's exactly what I mean. Thanks very much. Glad to see I'm not just going crazy or generating weird seeds.
