Yup. Seople heard "skylands," and formed preconceptions based on some popular mods and a couple of insanely early screenshots.
I'm glad Mojang is still throwing curveballs instead of just implementing things exactly as people expect them. I can't imagine how stifling it would be to be handcuffed to this audience's expectations.
I mean -- "I have lost a lot of respect for you" -- over this? Gimme a break. Get a sense of proportion.
Exacty.Getting upset becuase the skylands doesn't look like the early screenshots is like getting upset that the enderdragon isn't rainbow colored.
Rebranded doesn't mean sacked. It means that it was initially was what was intended, but development phases happened, so they added more stuff into it.
Honestly, it's only a download away if you really want the Aether. I'd much, much rather have the End. :|
This kid needs to learn how to differentiate expectations from supposition.

More Ocean Life: Kelp, Coral, Crabs and Jellyfish; Coconut Palm trees for beaches and islands. Terrain Generation Changes: Which biomes and world-building features are most in need of change?
ALSO: The code was in 1.7, it functioned well, i don't see why they'd scrap it. They may be tweaking it as we speak :biggrin.gif:
No, it won't.

Want a land in the sky so bad? We've got the Aether. Why would Mojang make their own form of the Aether if it's a mod that was worked on for months? The creators would feel like ****, knowing that their mod had no use. So, stop whining and making a bunch of threads about this.

with dimensions Notch adds we dont have to start over, all our progress still counts. thats why i hate aether
You clearly never played the Aether mod.
First people were complaining that Notch's sky dimension was **** because it wouldn't be as good as the Aether. Now people are complaining that he's not finishing it.
It's ****ing impossible to please this fanbase. Probably because it's filled with so many entitled little children.
skyworld has been saced for the ender. seriously WTF. Notch has promised this to us for a LONG time and right when he's supposed to add it(after Nether became more usefull) he completely changes it for something totally differnt.
and on top of that, they are pratically taunting the generation code for old skyworld in everybodys face in the pre-release going "you want this? to bad!"
you know, maby i would be more okey with it if they gave us a bit of a heads up and werent so spontanious. I mean Notch said at PAX for 1.8 he would add skyworld soon and than ditches the idea completely. and in all honesty, why cant we have both?
P.S before people start going "we told you so" you did that claiming it was fact without any actual proof, this is the first time Notch or Jeb have said anything about it so just back off
You know that there's some ways to spawn a sky world on SMP / SP with some plugins/mods

The Aether isn't really that good of a mod, but that's not my point.
When creative came, people were starting to say that SPC and TMI were going to be useless, but tons of people continued to use the mods because they liked them, a mod won't be useless just because Notch does his version of the idea in the game.
Those who are calling the old skyland a terrible Aether clone might be forgetting that the purpose of the skylands, when Notch was originally drawing up concepts, they didn't resemble the Aether at all -- The Aether is an "anti-nether" pretty much, while Notch's skylands were going to be a dream world of sorts, which opens up many new possibilities. Presenting content we already have -- normal terrain -- in a way that's different and strange is actually a very interesting concept and something I want to play with myself.
Also, Notch had skylands in Indev, way before anyone began modding for minecraft :tongue.gif:
Why is is that no one understands that Rebranded means RENAMED??? Its almost as if everyone has no basic grasp on the english language, ALMOST ALL of the comments in this topic are discussing skyace's posts, when he has no actual idea what he is talking about! ENDER WILL BE THE SKYLANDS, and its most likely going to be the same basic code as skylands, but more polished. WHY is this topic still up, and having attention paid to the original post when the argument has been proven completely invalid?

I saw the Yogscat video about aether and from what i've seen you need to start over. only a few things in regular world actually count.
and B difffernt people complain about differnt things. its not the same part of the fanbase complaining about one thing and than the other.
basically, people complained skyworld wouldnt be good like aether, but differnt people complain they didnt make it.

re-named and looks nothing like floating islands and isnt a dream world like the original concept
How will server owners be able to implement this into their servers? (I know. It's a rhetorical question.)
Don't server mods exist for solving that gap?
I admit that I'm unfamiliar with Bukkit and the like, but a simple server mod could probably more than reasonably give you decent support for old-style skylands in Minecraft and a quick client hack can ensure that everything looks "proper" on the client end. I guess in this case, it's more of a case what the server operator, and their users want.
Stop talking as if mods are the end all solution to everyone's problems. Not everyone plays Minecraft primarily for the single player.
What would your solution be, then? The only think I can think of right now is just waiting to see if Mojang implements a "floating" world type when they implement that feature.
EDIT:
cause it had nothin new
Sometimes I think the meaning of "Work in Progress" is honestly lost on some people :/

No, it won't.
Terrain Generation Changes: Which biomes and world-building features are most in need of change?
Ok. Tell me how to install that in SMP.
Well, i will say yes, but only because 1 + 1 = 2 isn't the only solution for it (believe it or not).
Anyways, we will still have Skylands, but with dragons, endermen, weird buildings and way darker.
So you're saying that "(-1) + (-1) = 2" being true makes 1 + 1 = 2 less true? That's just silly.

I'm pretty sure The End code will supersede the Skylands code. It seems implied.
But it's my lief!
