For some reason, this trick hasn't really been mentioned or widely used. In-game, you can craft two identical damaged tools(and armor) together, to make a repaired one. The repaired one has more duribility that the former two combined.

I have really never been at a point where I had two similar damaged tools. Not to mention, resources seems plentiful enough that I can build more tools than I need. Maybe on a survival map it would do good where resources are limited, but I don't see a need really. I think it would be better for repairs if say you had a iron pickaxe and only one iron bar left. You could put the pickaxe in the crafting table and place a iron bar over it to fully repair it. Same for diamond and iron and armor and everything else.

Why wasn't this mentioned? Well, quit frankly, people have other things to talk about, things that can be discussed. The only discussion for repair is what tools can you repair. After that is done, bam, nothing more to discuss.
Endermen, on the other hand, are a bigger topic, so is animal breeding. Potions is a huge topic, especially since people are guessing what might be added.
Unfortunately, Skrim developers decided that console members were more important the us PC gamers and decided to dumb down the game in many ways including removing tool repair...
Sorry just had to get that out. >.>
On Topic: I think tool repair is in 1.9 PR 3? Correct me if I'm wrong!
Yah, I guess this could be forgotten under the new wave of stuff 1.9 brought. I'm just the kind of person who keeps up with all the new features(I have potions memorized), and this really got past me. Its still a somewhat useful feature, and this thread is for people who may have missed it too.

I agree, Skyrim seems dumbed down. That is why I'm glad I know how to use their Construction Sets. Mods ftw.
On topic, I don't use the repair function because I have way too much resources already. The only thing I'm short on is gold.

I've been repairing my tools since it was implemented in 1.9.1 or 1.9.2, it's a handy feature but to be honest, it's hardly what I figured Notch had in mind when he said tool repair.
I was thinking like a work table you could leave your tools in and they would slowly regenerate while there.
I think in the end he just went with whatever was easiest so he could move onto other features.

If Notch cuts any more corners we'll be digging up spheres...

You mean, except for several threads dozens of pages long in which the topic has been hotly debated?

More Ocean Life: Kelp, Coral, Crabs and Jellyfish; Coconut Palm trees for beaches and islands. Terrain Generation Changes: Which biomes and world-building features are most in need of change?
And for some reason pre releases don't count?
Come on people. We are constantly playing a pre release, pre releases are just that on a deeper level. People who don't play them have surprise addiction.
I like the feature, but IMO, it needs some tweaks. I think you should be able to use lower-tier tools to somewhat restore the durability of higher-tier tools. Say if you have a steel pick and you come across some diamond. Then, instead of using the rest of your steel pick, you save it for when your diamond pick's durability has gone down. In this instance, you could use what's left of the steel pick to restore a certain percentage of uses for the diamond pick.

It's because it was added in the 1.9 pre-release.
If you're a small map maker, send me a PM and if it's good enough I'll advertise it in my sig.

How the hell did I miss that? I haunt MC Wiki. Thanks for the pointer. I'll go check this out. :smile.gif:
Yes, thats my point. I'm just surprised it hasn't been mentioned by anyone.(Besides obvious twitter post, wiki article.)

The reason is its pretty much useless but its so benign that no one bothers to gripe about it
Thanks

Also I've never repaired any items :\
