In the new versions, I like the idea of bigger biomes but what I don't like is that all mountains are grassy. Why is there not also sand, snow and forest mountains ? It would be normal to see snow in mountains !
They still exist, they're just rarer. I've seen some sandy mountains. It's just that they're not a biome (though cold and steppe mountains are) so you don't see them as often. I saved a screenie somewhere of it, if you're really interested I can probably dig it up.

i think they should definatly have foresty mountains. and i think mountain biomes should have snow at the top of thembecause it would look cool. maybe above a certain elevation
I *really* hope that Notch will fix the worldgen. if this is what things would be like in the final version, i'd be a major downer. All he would have to do is make landscape generation independent of biome generation again (like it was prior to 1.8). I dont really see what the point of a seperate mountain biome would be.
Same here. Mountains and hopefully soon, volcanoes should spawn in any biome (including ocean). Who doesn't want to find volcanic islands in the ocean biome? They might not ever erupt, but they'd still be cool. Ocean-borne mountains could just be dormant volcanic islands.
Edit: Sand mountains? More like sand dunes. I don't think many deserts have dunes that get super big though, like the Sahara.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.

Volcanoes need to be mostly limited to mountainous and island biomes, so that the geology geeks don't rage.
In 1.7.3 i saw this HUGE mountain made of stone, gravel, sand, and grass with a lavafall and an arch, and a skeleton dungeon in the middle with a few waterfalls aswell. I havent seen one since 1.8 after that.
It'd be cool if there was a swamp mountain too. Little lakes on the side of it, and vines on the walls. But it's true, i miss the desert mountains I used to find. But I also think that the new ones are a step in the right direction.
hm. Interesting. I think that the generator now is better than it has ever been... at least since v1.0
Sand mountains? Those are dunes. We have those, check.
Snow mountains? They exist. Check.
Mountains with forests on them? We have those too. Check.
Looks like everything is covered here.
We are just missing rocky-mountain and volcanoes. I trust in notch to have some cool landforms up and running relatively soon. =]
What might be interesting is to change how certain biomes work in regards to temperatures. For instance, in the colder regions it would snow and you would find snow at all elevations. With intermediate temperature zones, the top ten meters would be considered "cold" while the rest would be temperate. If it rained, the upper atmosphere rain would be snow and would turn to rain after 10 meters. Those areas would spawn with snow and water would freeze. Hot regions like deserts would remain hot throughout, so you would only get snow capped mountains in temperate areas.

I agree, there should be mountain style terrain in all the biomes. It's just way more fun to explore and looks cooler when the terrain goes up and down a lot. Big and flat might be more realistic, but it's just not as fun.

I'm all for snowy and forested and even sandy mountains (dunes?), but swampy mountains would be kind of contradictory since swamps form in lowlands away from mountains.
Fiancé <3, Andalucía <3.
There should be more of them.
No, I talk about snow, sand or forest mountains. I would like to have snow mountains near my house. I never saw any of them.

Minecraft isn't a game made to be realistic. I think that in the real life, we can say there is more sand dunes than square trees !

Large Snowy biome for you!
