I HAVE A SOLUTION! potion stands for "research" cauldrons work as they do now. BUT the potions don't have a tooltip. so then you go and place them in your potion stand and there is a time just like with an oven but with three slots that go one at a time. if you just put one potion in the timer goes by and you ONLY get the name (no effects). you put two of the same in and you get the name and the effects. now put two different potions in and the 3rd slot will show a potion and after the timer will show what would happen if you combined the two (like combining items in a crafting grid) and if you want two you can pick it up and spend the original two for 2 of the new one :mellow.gif: . please let me know if you like this?
also the enchant stand could be used for books you find. WHILE you can use books you make for "writing potions" using the potion stand.

I can't understand that first part at all, I was more concerned about the book part.
Can you re-explain the first part a little more clearly please? It's very confusing.
you still make potions in coldron. you make potion A. but know noting about it. so you place 1 potion A to find out the name. place another potion A in slot 2 for the effects. place a book in the book slot to "record" your finding. i.e. recipe, name, and effects.
on the same hand you may take a potion A. and a potion B. and it will show you potion C(which you can create by selecting.) placing a book in this case will tell you potion A.+ potion B. = potion C. you can use the same books to ADD info. so this book if used in both processes would say potion NAME HERE
ingredients BLAH BLAH AND BLAH
effects diddly diddly do
potion A + potion B = C.
i think ONLY fully researched potions should be used.

Alright that makes a lot more sense. However, it actually sounds worse than the current system.
As it is now, you add ingredients and have to pull out the potion to check it's effects, then replace the potion to continue adding things. This lead to the pattern of:
1: Add ingredient
2: Remove potion to check
3: If unsatisfied, readd potion
4: Repeat from 1 until satisfied
This system is unwieldy because you are constantly removing and re-adding. Your system keeps that removing bit and makes it so you can't even check unless you remove two doses. Sure you can get a book out of the deal that reminds you what you just did, but that's what Notepad is for :tongue.gif:
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of books having more purpose and use. I'm just saying this system does not solve the problem Jens had and the reason the cauldron idea was removed.
What we need is something with several slots like a crafting bench, you add ingredients to it, and then when you highlight the potion it will make it tells you the results without having to remove it, so you can continually add without having to really "make" the potion until you are ready.
Now, this is the problem Mojang is trying to solve. I personally prefer it the way it is, its fun to brew potions and experiment for success. But they need to think of the less patient crowd I guess.

you know i hate to say it. but i LOVE the currant systems. it's like a mini game, it's challenging. it's something you have to learn just like a true wizard. but jens like lets make it so easy that everyone is running around super powered. i like the idea of ONE person in a town being the brew master ^^

Let's get the whole "writing in books" thing down first, then we'll talk.
no need. place a book in the book slot and it crates a potion book.
