Dude, normally I think you're pretty chill but the way you're reacting to this is pretty stupid. The method for breeding he's using seems nice and simple. Why over complicate things? Also, you said a lasso could be make from wheat/sugar cane... wtf? Wouldn't it make more sense to use string??
Because you're not going to catch animals from throwing a string around their neck. You'd decapitate them.
Jeb does in fact have the source code and models for this, so Mojang could use that to speed things along. I'm not sure why Notch seems to be implementing breeding from scratch – it seems he just doesn't like some aspects of this mod? I know he and Jeb were disagreeing earlier about just how to go about adding it.
I'd honestly prefer cows/pigs/sheep from eggs than being forced to feed them wheat (ala bones for wolves). At least the egg idea is funny. We'd probably find creeper eggs in the wilderness too.
I'd like to have a catch-pole for wrangling grown animals though.
*edit*
I just hope they're different kinds of eggs that we can tell apart, and not a random surprise from the little tan ones we already have.

So what you want is basically the wolf code ported over for other animals, and the item needed to "tame" them changed to wheat. Why doesn't anyone want anything unique, you all just want re-used old code.

Because everyone is satisfied with the game being a "beta" and Notch coding minecraft as a "hobby"
Back in the day, we used to place value on integrity.
Now we have a generation of people who are lazy, or used to being disappointed and have accepted that, so if someone doesn't have integrity they don't care.

That's the only reason I can see.
Or they simply disagree with you? Oh wait I forgot, with you it's either they agree or are lazy ****s who don't care.
Notch is working on it, I would link the tweets but i dont know how...
Yay!
From what I've seen and read it looks like the system being implemented is like this (just guessing)
1) Passive mobs will follow you when you hold a food item it wants in your hand. For sheep it is probably wheat. This allows you to lead the -hopefully permanent- mobs to an enclosure to hold them there.
2) Giving the animal the food item results in some sort of love/baby making status, maybe only if another mob of the same type is in a certain proximity. Resulting in 1 more sheep/cow/chicken/pig/...squid? in your corral.
I'd be fine with this sort of setup as it fixes the very low mob spawning rates on the map in 1.8 and 1.9 prerelease and allows you to farm certain materials with greater efficiency if you wish. I want a sheep farm, in particular if sheep will regrow their wool. Even more fun if the sheep regrow their wool whatever colour you dyed them every time.
Edit: Actually, now that I think of it, the egg idea could have certain benefits. If you could pick up egg blocks and put them in your inventory you could move to a new area and not have to go tracking down animals again. This would also be helpful in settling on desert islands in ocean biomes, which as of right now don't spawn passive mobs. (correct me if I'm wrong on this one.)
Although eggs for animals other than chickens are a bit silly. I'm fine either way.

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
I think animals should breed on their own in the wild, with a way for the player to speed up the process.
Kind of like in real life. :\
Nah, I'mma disagree. With the amount of mobs getting stuck in holes and caves, breeding in the wild, even slowly, would eventually cause a mob-pocalypse.
Hmm, I just noticed. Notch did say that food was required for them to breed, and I noticed a stack of wheat. Perhaps wheat is the required food, instead of all food types like some people were saying?

Did you read the thread? If you show them food, they follow you. If you feed them, they become in love. Two animals in love = ****'n time.
+1 to complaints about this breeding system being unimaginative and too easy. I'm actually pretty disappointed, I had been gathering eggs intending to start a chicken farm, but now it seems all I'll have to do is spam food into a crowd and watch them multiply.

What!? So all animals are now wolves!?
Please tell me a specific food item is needed.
Exactly! This is why I was pissed off too, Notch is just reusing code, not adding anything new or unique. And the food is, I believe, wheat, from the screenshots we've seen.

Has someone actually used that as an excuse in this thread? /facepalm
I think he was joking, and now people are taking it too far :tongue.gif:
I'd just like to say that this is, hands down, the best post in the thread.
That will be all.
No, I just understand what integrity is.
You really think that the way minecraft is being developed is going to change when it get out of beta and into full release?
Don't be so gullible.
Maybe if people had good arguments, they wouldn't have to bash me for being correct.
Instead you'd just rather me "stfu and play the game"
Since I paid for it, that's not gonna happen. I work for my money.
If it means more work to get the extra animals then no. Otherwise I am indifferent.
Probably a better idea and judging by the screen shot, likely what he was experimenting with.

He said he prefers the idea eggs over that.
So long as there's a natural way to limit their population so they don't breed out of control, like old age or predators (wolves).
