I've been very disappointed at the recent updates, they're turning Minecraft into an RPG. Don't get me wrong, the 1.8 and 1.9 Pre-release brought a lot of nice concepts but some things are just horrible. The whole abandoned mine/stronghold idea idea wasn't very good to start with and there are just way too many of them, you can't even go for a walk without running into one. It makes the game way less realistic and takes out the whole mining experience because why mine when you can just jump down a hole?
Hunger also sucks, if anything, it should be an optional feature. I even get that some players might like that for roleplaying purposes, but it forces you to farm to survive being that Minecraft has always been a game about freedom, not being forced to do anything. If you think about it, despite Minecraft being called Minecraft, you've never had to mine to survive. You can no longer just run around the world exploring places, you have to now either settle and farm or carry an endless supply of coal, a furnace, and weapons wherever you go (and not even that can guarantee you food). As for experience, I don't even see why I'm gonna need that.
Villages are ok but they're still not perfect, the village generation code is very buggy, villages spawn in very weird places, and houses aren't the best looking. The idea is fine though and if Notch could work on the village generation code they should totally be kept (but it should still be an optional thing).
The new mobs are just horrible. Endermen are the ultimate griefers. (I thought the human ones we had were already bad enough.) They're boring to fight and not too scary either, Creepers and Skeletons are a lot worse when it comes to combat. Snow men/Snow golems bring an interesting concept of sentries but the fact that these sentries are snow men just makes it seem like an RPG. What maybe Notch could do is make mobs similar to the ones we've had so far, mobs that catch you by surprised and cause a lot of damage (e.g. Creepers) or that are simply hard to kill (e.g. Skeletons). Preferably scary looking ones too. And instead of working on so many RPG elements, Notch could make new mechanisms, new weapons, things like sensors and cannons and let players decide how they wanna play the game.

What do you guys think?
FIrst, *facepalm* Second, the 1.8 and 1.9 updates are called the ADVENTURE UPDATE (yes i made it large and underlined so the idiots can see it) which means a new mode is coming out, that is like an RPG version of minecraft. When 1.9 or 1.10 comes out one of them will release the Adventure update which gives us three modes to play in, Adventure, Survival, and Creative. with also with the 1.9 update the Endermen will no longer pick up blocks, as well as new Mobs in the nether which are scary and will sneak up on you. i suggest you go to the WIKI and you can learn more on what notch is updating, also follow Notch and Jeb a Twitter to see what Their doing to Minecraft. As for what i think i like the idea of the adventure update and new mobs and items.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Let us pray. Bless us, O Notch, and these, thy Updates, which we are about to receive for thy Game. Through Jeb, our Dev. Amen.

The Elder Scrolls doesn't meet those requirements either.
i think you may have your facts mixed up. the adventure update is adding new content to survival
the adventure mode is an entirely new gametype that was thought up a long time ago, but may or may not ever make it into the game. if it does, it won't change anything about survival

Notch himself said that Adventure Update =/= Adventure Mode
It's the only reason I stick around enjoying adventuring, but waiting on more and more rpg to be added, I love the addition of xp, just hope we get skills to train and quests from npc's
Sandbox RPG's have always been my favorite
from Eve Online to Second Life, I can't wait for Minecraft to be more polished with more rpg elements added.
As for having to build a farm.. i have been playing my world for 2 weeks without a farm. Kill a cow and get 3 beef. As for strongholds I agree they are too common. Imo the game is becoming way to easy. There is no challenge at all. As for it being an rpg that is a good thing. The one thing minecraft lacks is a purpose or goal to work towards. It's fun but after a couple of day's you basically can beat the game already. there is no real goals in minecraft, nor are there any objectives other than survive which isn't a challenge at all. I mean you can go through one cave system and get over 3 stacks of iron... It's way to easy.
Every roguelike I can think of is technically an rpg, in a literal sense, not in the same way rpg is usually advertised, but anyway, I just WISH it was more roguelike.. like. I think that was always notch's intention, and I think we're getting very slowly closer to it, but I don't see it happening even by release at this rate.
@op, this is what you signed up for. Removing the rpg features of minecraft leaves you with creative mode, play it, it isn't some big thing to be ashamed of, many people enjoy it and I think many people get turned off because they think others will make fun of them, like it's an insult, but if you don't like the rpg elements there's a mode that lacks them for you.

Oh well. You're about as right as can be, Minecraft is not an RPG. At all.

It gets a result.
What do you want? I want a dynamic game, if you don't, just play creative.

This. Let me fix that though :3
I've loved EVERYTHING so far, not the bugs, but the features? Yes.
You just need to play creative, that is basically what you've told me you want.
If we lose the hunger bar over this, I will be mad, I love the hunger bar

sandbox rpg's rock.
I don't think I understand what it is that people want in this game.
*slap* Nonsense, we must end the endermen threat!
