I dislike it if he is removing it completely, but from the looks of the citation he says he is nerfing it, not removing it.
I have disliked that they move blocks, but accepted that they do. I then took preventative measures to make sure my stuff stayed safe, to great effect. In my opinion the only way it should be changes is they should set blocks down if they start taking damage or are going to despawn, to prevent permanent loss of blocks.

I personally like enderman. I like how they can pick up blocks and move them because they leave their mark on the land. One day you may walk in a forest and find a tree with a missing log from its trunk. In a way it's like archeology. You can say, "wow, an enderman used to be here". I do however get upset when an enderman takes a block, but like he said, it takes 2 seconds to replace it.
I personally despised Endermen from the start of the block moving thing because I guessed it would lead to this exact bitchfest between people who want to build and people who'd prefer to have the game kick them in the nuts every night... if you can't tell I'm in the first camp.
Now I'm not weighing in here but I do want to clarify one thing which the pro-ender camp keeps spewing which really ticks me off that being this falicy:
"Shut up you whiner! All you have to do is protect your stuff, kill one and replace a block!"
1) Not everything looks good with a moat arround it, and not everyone wants an ugly-ass DMZ between our stuff and the rest of the world.
2) Endermen could easily be made a very powerful raditional mob to eliminate the ease of killing them, or even just remove the water weakness if not encountering source blocks or something...
3) It is not "just one block", they remove blocks all the time in their previous build, that means your environment over time starts to look pretty awful.
4) "It's just like a creeper!" doesn't cut it as an excuse, see the difference is creepers explode ONLY when you are near them, not willy-nilly in the wooods because they felt like it. Imagine a version of minecraft where creepers left huge sodoff craters through the woods at random intervols and then you'll have a comparison.
For the most part I like the Endermen!
The only thing I hate is they can pick up "ANY" block! Including "INDESTRUCTIBLE" BEDROCK!
Plus I heard at some point that Notch wanted to make them only pick up non player blocks with the exception of dirt and cobblestone.
Edit: And if you say you can replace the damage. Only 75% of the materials in the game are easy to replace... but what about the 25% that is a pain in the ass to replace? Diamond, Obsidian, Bedrock, etc. Well yeah making buildings out of bedrock is a bad idea but still... And what if they box you in with bedrock with no chance to escape?
Edit2: I had constant spelling errors so I had to fix them.
ok, just so you all know, i am a staunch defender of the Endermen and their block-moving abilities. i nearly cried when i was told that Notch was nerfing them, and i wish that he hadnt.
but, i'm above just shouting that everyone who doesnt think the way i do is an idiot. so, i'm going to give suggestions on how to improve them in ways that everyone can agree with.
1. their list of movable blocks should increase with the difficulty level. on easy, they have the nerfed list of blocks that they use now. on normal, they'd include materials like stone (and all variations), netherrack, planks, wood, glass, and other widely used building materials (but nothing that isnt really hard to replace). and on hard, they only blocks that they couldnt move would be bedrock and obsidian (for those of us diehards who really want a challenge). this way, your valuables would be safe if you so choose.
2. here's another idea, if you craft the ender pearls in a 2x2 grid, then you could make the Ender Block. this would essentially put up a relatively large radius in which the Endermen could not move blocks. just in case you want to have certain areas to be designated as "no Ender zones."

Complete support. Though, build, per se, maybe somewhat annoying if they take your roof as a platform, or build something in mid-air, the way players do. It would destroy the land, but if there's a possible way for them to avoid player territory/naturally spawned structures, then sure. :smile.gif:
Eh. I support the OP. I was hoping really hard that they would be like this. I guess that's what mods are for because the large portion of the community are carebears.
What challenge do the enderman add? What could they possibly add but annoyance?
You know, it's going to be removed because the game is still in beta. For this one time Notch actually listened to the community and realized it was a bad idea. That's the point in beta, developers need to listen what the community wants. Everyone is now saying that "when enough people whine" and stuff like that. Giving critism is not whining.
The enderman destruction can be really bad. I went for an adventure and left my house for about 3 minecraft days. When i came back, my decorative gold block was missing, my support pillars were messed up and the whole house looked crazy. It took me one minecraft day to fix it. Also on multiplayer its even worse. There is a reason for it being removed, and that would be because the majority of the community doesn't want it.
Neither does Notch. Nobody likes seeing ****ed up trees and houses ravaged by a pack of endermen. It isn't scary, challenging or adding anything but constantly having to repair your house.
i see the block moving as a sign of intelligence. The Endermen are smart enough to know how to manipulate the terrain, just like you can. now, if only Notch and the team could flesh this out a bit and not just listen to the constant complainers who whine about how they've lost a few cobblestone blocks. i respect the Endermen (although i'd respect them even more if they were far more difficult to tackle), and i want to keep that respect.
How about we all agree that the abilities of endermen (and other mobs for that matter) Should be optional in your world. Strength? How strong do you want them to be?
They destroying your redstone but you like that they are still dangerous? Make the taking of blocks optional.
And an option of weather they should take all blocks, natural blocks (not glass or stairs), soft blocks (sand, dirt), or non at all. That way the whiners get their wish and the survivors get theirs. I personally would be ok with them taking Non-player placed blacks because I'm very creative. That's my choice.
How can people complain about the endermen block moving abilities? Its an easy fix, and won't happen to your creations unless you hate the idea of placing a torch. Seriously, I just make a building's surrounding area relatively well lit, and it never gets touched by endermen....

Its because of all the carebears (thank you for the nice word Tyndall) that think survival is creative mode. Heck if you want survival to be creative mode then put it on peaceful....PROBLEM SOLVED. Your welcome, have a nice day.
Does this sound like everyone complaining about endermen taking their blocks?

There are people who want to build stuff completely legit. We shouldn't be limited to creative mode. That's a big part of Minecraft you know? Being creative.

But seriously, Endermen are kind of cool.

Please, anything but Connor.

personally, i prefer 1
I support this idea.

Mr. Notch, please make them more interesting

Like I said...that is why they have "peaceful".
