So far, the only part of 1.9 I really like is the new nether stuff. I am ok with the giant mushroom biomes, but I don't like the mooshrooms. I think that what the OP meant with that it feels like a mod is that it doesn't feel like Minecraft. It more feels like a mod that an amateur modder would make as a first or second mod rather than something that belongs in vanilla Minecraft. Many of the new "features" don't really blend with the rest of the game.
A few people said above that we have purchased a game in beta and are therefor simply beta testers. This is true, but the primary job of beta testers is to 1. Look for bugs in the game that must be fixed, 2. Suggest new features for the game, and finally 3. Find features in the game that don't really work or don't feel right. The Minecraft community is very good at doing the first two, but I feel that people often don't do the third, mainly because they are flamed and trolled by the rest of the community whenever they say that they don't like a feature for whatever reason.
Also, remember that you didn't only pay for a game in beta, you also paid for the full version when it is released. People seem to forget about this frequently when posting in these threads.
Thats exactly what im saying, one of the few people on this topic that actually looks at it a different way, thank you.
O jeez, ive been off this topic for two days, and to be honest im surprised its still up!
The snow golems, in my opinion, actually add a ton to the game. They open up possibilites for mob traps, Rube Goldberg machines, sentries, warning systems, friends, etc. All sorts of possibilities!
I agree with this. The reason that 1.9 doesn't feel like a mod to me is that, as per the usual, the new stuff has a distinct purpose (granted, blaze rods and ghast tears don't have a function -- yet). Snow golems don't do damage and don't follow you, and that radically changes their functionality compared to mobs most like them, the wolf and the skeleton. They're friendly damage-less aggressors.
Also, I love the new Nether stuff. The Nether could use more reasons for return journeys, and the new block types are it. Hopefully Nether Wart gains a valuable function too.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
Dude, Its the development of the game. You don't like it? Go play a different game. Notch and all of Mojang work really hard on it, and this is the crap they get for it? Plus. Look at your poll bro. Alot of people disagree with you in every way. Minecraft Beta 1.9 is cool and fun. So get over it.
Minecraft is currently in BETA. BETA is the last stage before full release. We are actually supposed to play Minecraft Beta to test it, and report bugs and things like that. 1.9 is currently in PRE-RELEASE stage. So, 1.9 is mostly like a beta of a beta. So stop complaining. And about the nether items that dont have a use, well, slimeballs? Think of them. How many updates were they un-useable? And about the "dont drop thing", wolves, snowgolems, silverfish.. Maybe they will get a drop later, maybe not. And didnt you say that the nether items ane un-nessecary? Why would more mobs drop more un-useable stuff then? And snow-golems, well, they have to be crafted, so dont be afraid of them... Why would they follow like wolves? I actually never tame wolves when I find them, because they follow. They are just annoying. And TESTIFICATES, we are still playing PRE-RELEASE of a BETA game, so wait a little before complaining afout their models. People play BETA to test it, and some problably tell Notch they dont like their models, so maybe Notch maybe will change it? I did say some stuff thats already been said, but still, this is my opinion
I still haven't seen a lily pad yet, so probably as your reading this i'll be walking to a swamp (im guessing thats where they are, it would make sence, wouldn't it?)
On topic: I think the 1.9 update is pretty good, I agree on those snowmen, and the nether strongholds SHOULD be a little smaller, so they are not that noticable. and Squidward should change its skin. xD its HIDEOUS!
What I wish is that Golems were more than a pumpkin on two blocks of snow. C'mon Notch, you can do better than that. Make us find a special enchantment powder in some dungeon...Have a special plant grow in the Nether, just SOMETHING that can make Snow Golems a little bit harder to build. I don't want thick-headed trolls grabbing loads of pumpkins and killing the mob spawning for an area - I want it to be a challenge.
Oh, and the mushroom biome is kind of stupid. I hope that Notch codes it so that the Mushroom biome MUST be at least x blocks away from the player spawn so that you actually have to get to it - The last thing I want is to spawn in a biome with a bunch of mushrooms and no wood.

BUTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRR
wow... your topic is so godamn stupid i dont know where too start!
ok firstly... you make a snowman. did you really think the snowballs would kill monsters?
secondly... it's a mushroom biome, not a ****ing tree biome...
your trying too make sense in everything i see. "snow golems are stupid, mushroom biome is stupid, everything in the nether besides blaze is stupid"
ghast tears and blaze rods have no uses for now. minecraft is still being bulit.
I would agree that its straying away from notches original intent. But I think its adding more interesting content to the game. Possibly expanding the possibilities? Notch did say he was going to make it more like a RPG, possibly meaning snow golems or stuff thats just whack. Makes it more interesting and appealing to a wider variety of people.
To be honest I don't care for the snow golems but I love just about everything else so I'm willing to overlook them.
I will probably never bother using them myself but kudos to all those who will enjoy them.
I can see them being heavily used for griefing on SMP but eh, whatever.
First a qualifier: 1.8 wasn't a complete product and we were warned about it, so its flaws were excusable. 1.9 is still not fully released, so - at least for now - the flaws are still excusable.
Having said that, I find that 1.8 and 1.9 seriously changed the nature of Minecraft. They have a lot of nice new features, but the overall package still feels disjointed, ill-balanced and incomplete.
The result is that I still spend most of my time on a 1.7.3 server and even though I never felt the need for mods in that version, I most certainly feel the need to use several mods in 1.9... to reverse certain new functionality that I don't like: Void fog, damage to buildings and terrain that can't be prevented by simple lighting, and the new drowning behavior.
Hands down its too much like a mod. I went back to 1.8, just because i didn't like it. I NEVER down grade back to a patch!
Ok, lets start with the snowmen. "Happy Birthday!" is what i swear i could hear when i made one. Are you serious? man made mobs? that fight for you? That hands down is a mod. And what i really found irratating is that they don't follow you like wolves. Whats the point in that? when your fighting a mob you quickly place down 2 bits a snow, jump and put a pumpkin on top? then wait half an hour to have them kill the mob?
Next up is the NPCs, the new ugliest thing in minecraft. Why, just why would you not make them look like actually humans, but some, large foreheaded, same clothes but different colour wearing, sleeve put togethering... hmm. but seriousley, whats the point in that?
Lets get to the lovley little nether.
Blazes, well, actually, they are fine, except they seem to just throw them out there without making it popular in the minecraft community like they did with enderman. Same with the slime nether things.
Never fortress's, well, where do i begin. They seem to take up the entire freaking nether. I like the idea of them, but please make them smaller. O and nether warts... i dont get them. Can you eat them or what? I also haven't figured out what blaze rods do either, nor ghast tears. And the nether slimes, should definetly drop something. Now those that will say "not every mob has to drop something!" every mob does drop something, except wolves, and snowgolem because they are supposed to be tamed... and created.
I still haven't seen a lily pad yet, so probably as your reading this i'll be walking to a swamp (im guessing thats where they are, it would make sence, wouldn't it?)
Well thats my opinion, whats yours?
Pardon my French but you're absolutely retarded.
First you said it was too much like a mod to have mobs fight monsters for you, then you proceeded to COMPLAIN that they didn't kill things fast enough.
Besides, it's not like they spawn in the world. Also, snow golems drop snowballs, and they don't have to be tamed.
oh wait, this is minecraft forums, where proper grammar is looked down upon :dry.gif:
