My big issue at the moment is the iron armor. It's far too powerful. With a couple pieces of iron armor and a full food bar, you're completely indestructible. There's simply no way that a Creeper explosion, at point-blank range, should barely scratch your armor.
Fortunately, this is the sort of thing that is solved through extensive play-testing. Notch just needs to resist the modern videogame industry's bad habit of dumbing everything down. Back in the 1980s, video game programmers and engineers were shaking us kids by our ankles and punching us in the stomach. And we turned out fine! :tongue.gif:
Ideally, there should be greater separation between the difficulty levels. Easy should be easy (I'm perfectly happy with that), Hard should be difficult, and Hardcore should be brutal. It's just a matter of tweaking the dials and knobs until everything is perfect. Add in a lot more monsters, new weapons, tons of ores, gems, and items to discover, and you're good to go.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the new sounds....
•The Bow not having it's cool draw-back sound or hard pchaw! sound when fired... now it has a pew pew sound and there's NO draw-back sound at all, which is super lame and not nearly as cool.
•The ambiguous damage sound now constantly makes it seem as though you're breaking your bones no matter what. I was drowning and I heard the bone breaking sound. Not cool. 'Kinda miss the old ambiguous grunt sound...
•TNT now, instead of a KAPOOOW! sound, now is more like kapushhhh. Not cool.
They didn't designate the old door sound to anything else, and now the doors, hatches, and fence gates all have that weird sound. I don't mind it as mich with the doors and gates, but the hatches should have the old sound.
I definitely agree with you on the explosions. You want a deep, booming sound. These new sounds (Creeper, TNT) add more to the treble and midrange, but scoop out the bass. It sounds muffled and slightly muted. Getting a good explosion sound is always crucial to any great video game. Think of all the classic '80s arcade games.
I also believe there should be a voice effect when you are hurt. The previous "Ooof!" may have been a bit too obnoxious, but I think we can do better. Worse comes to worse, just rip off a couple sound samples from some older Castlevania games and you'll be fine.
I just attacked a creeper and a skelleton. The creeper was next to me so I tried to get a golden disc from the creeper by the skelleton. The skelleton attacked the creeper and the creeper turned to the skelleton , went to him and exploded. (It was next to my house but it hapeened in the Water :wink.gif: ).
Is that normal?
Yeah, that's why I get the creeper's health low enough that the skeleton takes him (or her) out in one hit.
Sorry if this isn't exactly the right place for it, but the Search feature is failing me on this.
I'm sure people have already reported the issue on SMP where a huge amount of territory is suddenly snowing and icing over, to a much wider area than what it should. Like, y'know, literally half my server is snowlands right now, no matter what it was pre-1.0.
Is there any update to this? I heard they were working on an updated server file that was supposed to drop yesterday, but never saw anything about it. And there are amazingly no threads that I could find about this issue. At all.

Nevermind. Did some digging and found out that it's something with the biome code. All the areas I had that weren't in a winter biome before are now, even though the terrain is not winter-y. *sigh* AWESOME change.
Though I was DELIGHTED when I hurled an egg into my chicken cop today and four little chicks popped out of it! :wink.gif:
it made me far happier than it should have, lol.
Something interesting-
As long as you occupy the same block as a fence gate, you can pass through when it's closed, compared to a door that doesn't actually take up an entire block. This tends to cause some problems, say, when you run a sheep farm. Get enough sheep, and they will actually push each other through the door as soon as you close it. It seems like they can, occasionally, force one another through the closed gate. I have come back time and time again to find one lonely sheep, trying to get back to it's baby, because it's stuck on the wrong side of the fence.
Also, its really annoying when the parents don't leave the baby sheep alone after it grows up. If you start off with 2 sheep per area, you end up with one gigantic mass of moving wool all centered around the newest baby. Really annoying.
Snow biomes actually got a new name, it's now the Ice Plains. Rivers also got named Frozen River, when found in such biomes. Just thought it'd strange to change names, but I guess it had to be done with various new biomes to be possibly added.
I think that the new sound when you get hurt isn't that great. Since it's like bone-cracking, I think the sound should only be played when you fall, not everytime you get hurt.

Can I make a suggestion here.
Take the change lists, compile one that goes 1.8.1 -> RELEASE 1.0. That way, we can see the 'official' changes, without all the back and forth of the 1.9 tests. That way, the people who did not follow the updates, or didn't bother with the pre-releases, can get the full picture of the changes, comparing 1.8.1 to 1.0.

1.9 = (1.8-->1.0) I would just be copying the same....information. <.<

Confirmed.
I'll try to get a pic up soon.
OHHHHHHHHH OOHHHHHH
YES! We got our first item ladies and gents! PIC PIC GO GO!
1.9 = Beta. Because it was 'officially' released, they started over with 1.0.

The bottom ice will melt into stationary water, but not the ice closest to the glowstone.

Not quite, there were some things that were added in earlier 1.9 updates that didn't survive to 1.0
Prime example, the water physics. And the ability to use silk-touch to collect spawners.
This entire section should be locked, since it's specifically for Beta 1.9 and we're now out of Beta.
