Skills As most will know, in 1.9 upon leveling up you will gain some form of talent point, these are my hopes for what these can be spent on. Along with this I wish Notch makes a simple colourful GUI.

Mining
When you spend a skill point in mining, it would increase your chance to gain a double drop from mining ores. It would apply to any pickaxe and every ore. Starting at 0% and increasing by 3% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 30% from then on it would increase your mining speed.

Woodcutting
When you spend a skill point in woodcutting, it would increase your chance to fell the whole tree when hitting the bottom log, very much like Treecapitator. It would apply to any axe. Starting at 0% and increasing by 5% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 100% from then on it would increase your chopping speed.

Cooking
When you spend a skill point in cooking, it would increase your chance to gain a double cook from cooking food. It would apply to every food. Starting at 0% and increasing by 4% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 40% from then on it would increase your cooking speed.

Eating
When you spend a skill point in eating, it would instantly heal you for x% of the foods hunger renewal. It would apply to every food. Starting at 0% and increasing by 5% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 50% from then on it would reduce the food eating time by 2%.

Fishing
When you spend a skill point in fishing, it would increase your chance to catch a Golden Fish or rusty coin (possible new currency). It would increase the chance by 4% for coins and 3% for golden fish.

The maximum cap being 40% for the coins and 30% for the fish from then on it would increase your chance to catch normal fish by 4%.

Smelting
When you spend a skill point in smelting, it would increase your smelting speed per skill point. It would increase the speed by 4%.

The maximum cap being 80% and from then on giving you a 5% chance per point to smelt Cobble into to two stone and sand into two glass.

Farming
When you spend a skill point in farming, it would increase your crop growth speed per skill point. It would increase the speed by 5%.

The maximum cap being 50% and from then on giving you a 5% chance per point to gain seeds from wild grass.

Archery
When you spend a skill point in archery, it would increase your chance to instantly have your arrows returned. It would increase the chance by 5%.

The maximum cap being 50% and from then on giving you a 3% chance per point to knock back the target.

Redstone Engineer
When you spend a skill point in redstone engineering, it increases the distance your redstone currents can travel by one block. At level 10 you can place redstone up walls.

Swords
When you spend a skill point in swords, it increases the your critical strike chance. For each point spent in swords you gain 1% critical chance with swords.

The maximum cap being 30% and from then on increasing your swords range by 2%.

Blocking
When you spend a skill point in blocking, it gives you a chance to reflect damage when blocking successfully. Per point spent it increases the chance by 1%.

The maximum cap being 30% and from then on increasing your chance to dodge by 1%.

Agility
When you spend a skill point in agility, it increases your sprinting speed. It increases your speed by 5% per level the maximum being 50% from then on it increases your jump height by 0.2 blocks. At level 10 it allows you to pull your selves up walls very much like the MovePlus mod.

Swiming
When you spend a skill point in swimming, it increases your swimming speed. It increases your speed by 4% per level and reduces the effect of breaking blocks underwater by 4%.

The maximum being 40% from then on it increases your breath meter by 0.3 bubbles.

Let there be Light
When you spend a skill point in light, it increases your torch effectiveness. It increases your torch light effectiveness by 0.4 per block. Every 5 levels it creates a glowing aura around you increasing its light distance by 1 per 5 points.

Along with this more achievements for stats and rewards for doing achievements. This will give an incentive to aim for achievements now! e.g

This would give a iron pickaxe and bonus experience

This would give a diamond hoe and 20 pumpkin seeds

Awarded for reaching level 10 in all
Rewards 10 diamonds?

Leveling Achievements

I've seen some ideas already, and one of my problem's is this: Multiplayer. Seeds growing faster, smelting faster etc. is really gonna be hard to do in multiplayer.

I think that could be avoided to let the skills be more like an aura, than worldwide (only for the farming and smelting and such things)

you CAN get 100% for that it also allows you to craft redstone fans they work like redstone torches but start off OFF when placed

Sounds like some really good ideas. My whole problem is the experience orb thing. Why would killing a bunch of monsters equal you being better at mining? Does something about caving in a zombies skull with a diamond sword relate to picking away at a block of obsidian or something? I wish you could gain skills by DOING the action you want to get good at. Makes a WHOLE lot more sense to me!
