I'm building something along the lines of an underworld full of odd tunnels, pointless caves and forgotten cities and temples. It will probably take awhile. Here are some things I've made so far:
Feb, 27, 2010 Update:
I've released an alpha version. You can download the mclevel here: underkingdom_alpha.zip
Thanks for your comments everyone. I will post the mclevel file at some point. I work on it a little bit each day. Right now I'm hollowing out a Very Large Cavern. It's pretty dull work. TNT is good stuff.
if this was somehow made into an interactive map I would be fulfilled in life
I'm interested in this, but I'm not up to date on how one makes things interactive in this game. If someone can point me to info on how to do this I will take a look.
Here is the Very Large Cavern in its current state. I got bored of digging this out and did other things today. Looks pretty awesome just as it is:
A hallway:
A brief glimpse of daylight:
Another hallway. This was once a natural cave. Just around the corner are some of the most complex, non-semetrical decorations I've done...they don't photograph well, however (grin):
I'm thinking of using a sign system, where different colored cloth blocks have a defined meaning. 'Red' might mean 'Danger.' I haven't really decided what the rest would be. Some of these natural caves I'm finding are easy to get lost in. Other times they lead somewhere I've already been working on. Some of them need to be marked with "You will never get out!"
Issues:
Torches: I am going to run out of these. There are other alternatives for light, though (shafts and lava).
Rock Block: I would love to have an infinite supply of the grey rock block. Sadly I don't.

You should use CE then to get more blocks! :biggrin.gif:
There are posts about it around here somewhere o.o
Sadly i can not get as to the fact i have school in 5mins D:
Some light shafts would be rather nice. Do half-blocks still let light through them? Could be useful if you want to cover holes on the surface but don't want to place leaf blocks.

Also, not enough magma pools.
I have built one light shaft. I plan to build a few more. This is a 'deep' map, though, and they won't work everywhere.

Magma will be featured more on the lower levels.
