I have a background for my Youtube channel, but the amount of disk space it takes is far too big, much over the 256kb that they allow as the max; it's a whoppin 11.7mb. Is there any way that I could fix this problem, without cutting off any of the picture? I've tried a lot of methods, including decreasing the quality, but it didn't work.

Resize it. Probably 800x800 will be enough and save it as PNG.
I don't think 800x800 pixels will be big enough, is the problem. Even on an 8-bit, no-dithering, high transparency threshold PNG file, it's 864 KB at the best.

EDIT: Here are some examples of posterization. posterizing an image removes some of the colors used to make the image, in turn downsizing the amount of space it takes.

I had the posterizing set to 0, and it was still far over 256k. What I meant by dithering is posterizing, I just couldn't remember the word.

I don't often follow threads I post in. If you'd like a response about something, send me a PM.

Don't make pictures like these PNGs:

11MB is HUGE for a youtube background
