Here on "NationCraft" we have created a game play style that has just the right mix of plugins and rules to make for a very enjoyable experience. Several styles of play are blended together by utilizing a few select plugins. These plugins provide the mechanics, all is needed is your imagination to finish the recipe.

We have made a few changes over the past few months. This has been a issue with some as they do not like to restart maps too often. We feel the pain and understand this. But we also ask that you understand this game is in beta, the plugins and the API are always being improved on and sometimes even completely redone. This causes us to look at several issues that deal with the map and the current world. Sometimes these changes in the plugins force us to change the map.
In the last change bringing NationCraft up to version 4.0 we had a severe change in a few plugins. Our "Kingdom" system did not totally support what our intent for the server was. We found a couple of new plugins that have totally changed the gameplay to the extent that we are forced to reset the map.
The reason is simple. The old plugin for guilds was replaced with a different system. This caused all protections for current Kingdoms to dissipate. Not good! Especially if your not online! and that was the issue. Do we continue knowing people will grief the unattended kingdoms, or do we sit back and wait for days even weeks for everybody to be online at once! LOL impossible! So the best way to convert was to reset the map once more.
Here is a quick rundown on the NationCraft versions that has led us to where we are now.
Prologue
NationCraft is a server with RP and PVP. In the past we had two plugins, Towny and then Guilds as our "Kingdom" making plugins. This allowed us to have Kingdoms! With that came alliances and wars.... Server has been up and down. From over 60+ players online at times to as low as 15 or 16. The plugins changed with Hmod which was the most common reason for players leaving. I'm not too worried because once we get a solid plugin we will regain our player levels to about 100.
NationCraft v1.0
Towny provided the players with a nice format. This started the creation of NationCraft back in the day. Towns could be made and they could then join up with other towns to create Kingdoms. Towns and Kingdoms had protected areas. The plugin managed political modes like it does here in Factions. Problem was when you went to war with another Kingdom, you lost ALL of your protections at once. Bad news! Be it was all we had and the wars raged!
NationCraft v2.0
Crash! Chaos! Uprisings! Hmod went away and we started using CraftBukkit. Problem was NO Towny plugin! The ranks dwindled as the wars stopped and people didn't like the vanilla server.
NationCraft v3.0
Finally a programmer gives us something! Guilds is coded by Toi (Olof, get with Toi, they need help maybe you two can share stuff!) once we loaded Guilds the players came again but not in force.... Guilds gave us the ability to create the "Kingdoms" and has a wonderful protection system with a awesome ranking system for guild members. The problem for us was there was no way to declare a war and get into a enemy town.... The plugin did not have a "war system".
NationCraft v4.0
In steps Olof!!! We are back in the saddle again! With "Factions" we get what we lost with Towny and more! The protection system is great (Now that I have my math right!:iapprove:). The wars are Awesome!!! You have to use strategy with this one! The power points make this possible! Once we figured out how to adjust the levels for power per player, we have actual castle sieges that last all night!!!!
The Idea behind NationCraft
NationCraft allows you to immerse yourself into a world of role play that is only restricted by the imagination.
You will arrive in Capetown, our spawn city. From there the world is open for your exploration. Explore the world independently, making your riches from mining, or farming. Maybe work for another company mining, shipping goods, or building. Become a mercenary as a hired sword! Or even become a bandit making your way to fame as a "Thief in the Night"! Maybe even earn your way by being a bounty hunter earning riches from bounty kills!
Join a faction and have the luxury of protection. Earn wages by working a shop or become a partner in a business that thrives in the community by selling and bartering. Earn a living by farming to provide goods for sale or become a Knight using your sword to earn fame and fortune as you wage war with other guilds!
NationCraft is only limited to your imagination.
The Hardware!
We provide a leased dedicated 2GB server, running 24/7. Located in Chicago, US. Our only downtime is for map maintenance in the mornings. Notch will soon allowed us the choice to update our client or NOT. This is big because now instead of the server going down because all our protection plugins break on a patch, we can hold off updating till all of the plugins catch up, then we update client and server as a group. This way we will have nearly no downtime.
The Software!
CraftBukkit
We were one of the first public servers to use CraftBukkit. Still in it's development phase, Bukkit is already proving to be a first rate system for running our plugins.
General
A simple plugin that allows use the basic user commands in the game along with a few admin functions.
Guardian
What can I say, this is our main anti-griefing tool. We stop buckets, lava, fire spread ect with this. Without this plug the server is wide open to griefing. Admins will drop lava or Water upon request.
BorderGuard
Simply put, it allows us to restrict the map to a certain size to help reduce any possible lag due to map generation. We are running on 2400m right now, but will increase this as we grow.
iStick
An admin tool do get rid of those unsightly buildings!
iConomy
You can not have a society without a form of currency! iConomy gives us a form of virtual cash in the game. So along with this and the bartering of goods, we have a strong economy on the server.
SimpleShop
Works with iConomy and creates a server shop where you can buy or sell things.
HeroBounty
This lovely plugin works with iConomy and gives the players the ability to set bounties on other players. They choose the amount! Other players then accept any current bounty posting and make the kill earning the reward!
Factions
Wow, Woot, and YEA!!!!! This is the meat of the server. This little jewel of a plugin allows the players to create and manage factions. Unlike the older Guilds and Towny plugins, this one has the protections running just right for wars and peace. A power point system manages the amount of area you can claim. These points will drop if you die! and that will let others claim some of your area! Dont fret, the power regenerates over time.
The GamePlay! Age Limit
We have raised the age limit to 16 on the server.
Chat & OOCCurrently we are working on a chat that will support the factions and IC RolePlay
Building & Claim Code
So here you are and you have decided to stay independent for awhile to see how things are going in this new world! You are free to wander where ever your feet take you! Inside the map borders at least and that's taken care of already. ;D You can build above ground inside of faction areas ONLY! Outside of these areas you are limited to building underground. When claiming areas (Chunks) they must be bordered by a current chunk of yours. You can not spread your chunks around! They must be grouped. The only exception is for islands, and this is so you do not have to claim water areas!
All faction towns must be connected by a two block wide path made from cobblestone. If path goes over water, it must be high enough (Two Blocks) to allow boats under it. Use step stones going up and down. Once you have set your guild area, you need to be started on the road. It has to link to the Spawn city by roads. Either directly, and/or routed to another road, or guild. As long as you can trace a route on a road from spawn to your faction, you are good.
Torches can be placed on the ground inside of buildings and on farms. All other lighting must be done as a light pole or other creative way! Torches placed on the ground all over to prevent mobs look like ****! Be creative and make light poles damit! Yes as a temporary fix to stop monster spawns you can place torches on the ground. But these are temp only, build light poles! You can use them in farms on the ground.
If you chop down trees, remove all the logs from the tree so it will drop the leaves. Replanting is not necessary as factions will be required to pay forest rangers to plant saplings from time to time in their areas if they deforest them. *Job Security!
Don't build stupid crap, I have no reservations in hurting your feelings as well as removing the eyesore! Continued building in a reckless manor will result in a ban. Use thought behind your buildings. Yes we know some folks can't build. Try hiring somebody to plan for you! It creates a job! If your good at building, just maybe that's your calling in NationCraft! Bottom line is this. The server is based off of a Medieval Style Theme. Keep that in mind when building.
Added: COLORS! Keep the fancy colors to indoors! No dam billboards! If you want to flame colors, do it in your house!
Factions
Factions are the main part of the server. Without the Factions all we have is chaotic building. Factions provide several things, jobs, income, protections, and build rights above ground to just name a few. See our plugin section on the website for details. Factions can be created by everyone! Right now there is no player limit on players in a faction.
Independent Players
You don't have to even choose a faction! Roam the world free and easy. Work for others or start a business. Maybe even become a outlaw! Beware! LOL, you may get a price put out on your head!. Stealing and killing is allowed here at NationCraft. PvP is a key part of the server. Just beware! This is not a "Daddy Daycare" server. you may find yourself being hunted like a dog if you get on the wrong side of somebody!
One note on stealing. If players notice that the faction protections are down for some software glitch, do not wait for an admin to tell you to stop stealing! DO NOT WAIT! If you walk into a guild area and notice it is weird that all of their chest are unlocked and you see people screaming in chat to leave their **** alone!! YOU HAD BEST JUST LEAVE IT ALONE! That would fall under griefing rules and get you banned!
Economy
iConomy is used for currency. Each player gets a starting amount. From there on it is up to them to create more wealth. Be creative, use your imagination! There are other ways to earn wealth as well. Diamonds! We will buy Gold in exchange for currency. Use barter and trade as well. I would love to see a merchant guild set up! Traders can make a fortune if done right.
There are all kinds of creative things to do....
War
OMG why are those players setting outside my castle chopping down all my trees?
You groan in the morning light as you hear somebody in the battlements scream! "Cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war!"
PvP is a very critical part of NationCraft. We even encourage it to be used. Just use it in moderation please! and pay attention to the griefing rules!
NO SPAWN KILLING!! DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN SPAWN!!!!!
Some things that are not allowed:
Lava will be placed by admins on requests only
Closed redstone circuts (Clocks)
Square, one block type buildings, be creative!
The Griefing
So, Just what is Griefing to us you ask?
Griefing is a gray area and is looked at differently on each server. We have a simple philosophy that will dictate what griefing is and is not on our server.
Basically griefing is anything that is affecting the gameplay in a negative way and is done with little to no purpose. For instance a bandit finds a way into one of the kingdoms and starts destroying everything with a pickaxe. That would be griefing. There would be little reason for a bandit to do that. However a bandit who breaks down someones front door and goes into their house to steal stuff out of their chest, and make a run for it. That is not griefing.
Another example is war. If a guild destroys another guild's town when nobody is there to defend it, can be griefing. On the other hand, if a guild is at war and during the course of the day while fighting the defender, breaks down walls and such, is not griefing, it is WAR!
Another form would be abusing game mechanics. For instance a player builds around another so that they are stuck inside of the enclosure. The player however could dig themselves out, but this would still be considered griefing because of the lack of purpose to it. Another form of this would be continually killing someone at the spawn. That would be a form of abusing the game mechanics for griefing.
The same philosophy will apply to building as well in the server. Make sure everything has purpose. We wouldn't enjoy seeing lots of 1x1 towers or incredibly huge structures in which most of all of the space within it is not even being used. Towers that reach as high as they can and take 5 min to reach the top to find that the builder is rarely in there.
The basic gist of all of this is to just use simple common sense. We are not going to have a big list of black and white rules dictating exactly what you can and cannot do. Just use your head and make sure there is purpose to everything you build and everything you do. Did you read all this stuff? Put "I did" after your information in your app.
