This is dumb! How are you not allowed to post server updates? The most "bumping" that is going on is from servers that have whitelist applications. I constantly see them spamming the front page. That is what is making it unfair. This forum fails.

How are whitelist posts not bumps? You realize that a listing get's on the frontpage from a whitelist... That is bumping.
You *can* post server updates. However you cannot do 20 in 1 day though. An occasional one is fine as long as it is completely relevant to the server and is not "Added plugin" or "updated op".

Thanks for the clarification.
I got confused when PirateBay said "Posting server updates every 15 minutes can be seen as bumping."
I still stand strong of my opinion of the whitelist servers getting all the attention and free advertising. This has gotten to the point where non whitelist servers are actually lying and telling users to "Post your whitelist application" just because it is not considered a bump, even though it is a bump.
Recently i've noticed the uprise in "WhiteList" servers, which are completely fair, although.
A large amount of these "WhiteList" servers which i checked out first hand are False, meaning thier falsely advertising thier servers.
They claimed to be whitelisted but in fact they aren't, you can freely join thier servers and build <-- important
without having to create a whitelist application. Meaning hundreds of players are creating these false whitelist applications in the place
of Bumps, making the severs first page news 24/7
I would greatly appreciate it if you would from time to time check these whitelist servers for legitimacy.
Can't we just report those servers and just move on?
Bah, I understand that there has to be rules, But how about if you want to just run a nice server with no whitelist? These days its impossible for that to happen without breaking the rules to atleast get 1 or 2 people to join.. Im not sure if this would work, but how about if their was a rule inplace that whitelists apps would have to be in the form of a private messege, or some seperate system was set up which would not be whitelists posted to fourms, its not a bump, but admit it, it does bump it, and it gets it ahead of a lot of servers when everyone asking for a whitelist. People would still bump, but atleast these big whitelist servers wouldnt dominate the front page. I just wish their was some way that instead of bumping, someway that a small server, dosnt have a whitelist to get spam bumps, can atleast get seen more then about 3 minutes at a time without having to break the rules and bump. Which im sure mostly everyone does bump.
Try running a small server with no whitelist, no account popularity, and no "illegal" bumping, I bet you wont get far, Im not saying you should legalize bumping, you shouldnt, becuase then everyone will be bumping and it will be an even shorter time on the front page, but maybe loosen the punishment for bumping, or implement a system that could help smaller servers get more attention.
I do agree though that the starting up fourm for new servers was a good idea. Sure, it wasnt foleproof, and it wasnt always used the right way, but atleast it was some form of way new servers could get ... maybe some players.

I think the Minecraft Survival Servers should have a subforum (if possible).
So it would look like this:
Whitelisted Servers
Survival Servers (0 - 24 slots)
Survival Servers (25 - 40 slots)
etc. to I'd say 100 slots.
And then it would go: Survival Servers (100 slots+)
So if someone had a whitelisted servers, the 'bumping' of the whitelisted ones wouldn't get in the way of the other nonwhitelisted ones.
The number of slots would also help if people were looking for a specific slot type.

Just reporting it isn't enough. There simply isn't enough mod power to go around checking if every server is whitelisted or not. Simply "reporting it and moving on" really won't change anything. Whitelists are bumps, and you are ignorantly ignoring that fact. Go ahead and look at the front page right now. Some of those servers have 5000 whitelist applications (bumps) and continue getting more bumps each day. Putting a rule on saying bumping isn't allowed is ridiculous for non-whitelist servers, making this forum useless unless you whitelist your server.
I think we can all agree that their has to be something changed on these forums. Some people have great ideas on here that are not even being considered. A moderator previously pointed out for some of the ideas that they would only waste time and bandwidth for the forums. What a great excuse for a forum that is probably making more than $10,000 a month and has a wonderful active community supporting it. Personally I don't care about "advertising" on these forums. I alternatively pay for advertising on other sites due to this "exploit" that has been running on this particular forum thread.

YES! Thank you sir! All this time and bandwidth crap is ********, Something needs to be changed, and some of these ideas need to be taken into thinking. Whitelist apps are Bumps, they still boost the server. If your server dosnt have a whitelist, its useless to even try posting on here without breaking the rules.

Whitelist applications are obviously optional, and they're something we allow here. Please note that the following is allowed in a server thread:
Server related discussion (it's very easy to maintain a server discussion without derailing into something off-topic.)
Relevant updates (i.e. a thought out post with a new server feature, not "10 players on!". This is allowed as long as you're not bumping while doing so, meaning if there's not a post or two in-between a previous post by the same user, it would be considered a bump.)
Basically, you should be at the point where you feel safe having server-related discussion without the intention of bumping. If you're thinking "Oh, I need to post this server update to get the thread bumped", then it's likely against the rules.

I understand this, but if your just starting up a server by yourself or your the only one managing the small server thread, theres not much room for server discussion. And I was talking with some people on the server I made a thread for, and only a small chunk of them had minecraft accounts, and didnt seem to want to make one. Soooo yeh.

This has been discussed before. Doing it like that might create way too many forums with not enough content in each.
