If I'll be honest, 99% of the time the Server never updates is so the Server can give everyone the best possible experience. I'm sure it would be updated 1.0.0 if all the Mods were working for that patch. In the meantime though our 1.8 world is still running and playable with the Mods that make Halfcraft what it is.
So in other words to the people who were asking, the Server should be updated soon.

Slim is correct. We are trying to offer the most enjoyable experience for everyone. Bukkit still has yet to update to 1.0, so modders can not begin to update their plugins yet. We would love it if you would all join us on our 1.8.1 server though! It is just as fun, and we are already using the future 1.0 map. Everything will be moved over... Won't you join us?

You've been added to the server! Come on in here and have some fun! :biggrin.gif:
I miss the days in duneveil where all we had to worry about was finding yellow wool... Oh the memories
Who's to say we won't need some sort of equivalent of yellow wool in the new town? To be fair though, the only real reason we were scrambling to get yellow wool was because someone stole somewhere around 2.5 stacks and we weren't allowed back in the town without the help of an assistant because we all lost our residential priveleges. Funny how something that would be scary in real life is considerably fun in a video game isn't it? Never did figure out who stole the yellow wool either.

Hey everyone, I'm going to answer a few questions regarding the server that we've been receiving lately.
Why hasn't shis server updated to 1.0.0 yet?
Before we can update our server to 1.0.0, there are a couple programs that need to be updated first in order for HalfCraft to provide the best possible playing experience. These programs have not yet been updated to 1.0.0, and as a result, we cannot update your server to 1.0.0.
Which programs need to be updated?
Our server needs a stable version of CraftBukkit first and foremost. After that, we will need Multiverse 2 and LogBlock to be updated. Once these programs are updated, we are able to update the server. However, the server will not be able to reach its full potential until the Heroes, Towny, and TempleCraft programs are updated as well.
Why not use the development build of CraftBukkit?
Development builds are dangerous because they often don't get along with plugins and have a chance to corrupt all of our configuration files. We want our server to be playable at all times, so we are choosing to stick with the stable version of CraftBukkit for Beta 1.8 until a stable release is availible.
What is currently planned for the 1.0.0 release?
HalfCraft has a ton of features planned for 1.0.0! All of the previous "camps" are being replaced with full-blown cities! The HalfCraft staff has been tirelessly building their new cities on a 1.0 map seperate from the server and most of the cities will be ready for settlement as soon as the new server launches. Duneveil, Trincea, Stonewall, and Ulfgaard will be accepting residents from the moment the new server launches, with at least one other town on the way shortly after. We also have more dungeons on the way, and sometime in the future we hope to be able to implement a questing system.
Is there any new content coming to the 1.8 server before HalfCraft transfers to 1.0.0?
I'll just leave this here:
:wink.gif:
Can I help with the server transition?
Absolutely! Our server owner will soon be out of a job, and the server costs $55 a month to upkeep. We will soon have an account where you can donate to the server. All donations are appreciated (no matter how small) and we may be able to offer in-game rewards for your support.
Also, the cities need people to help them gather materials. Talk to any mod or admin to find out what you can do to help the cities be constructed faster!
I don't really understand why you transfering Towns now. It's all was planned to start over on the updated world. Now it's like you want to transfer old-type generated cities with many new features and blocks missing into 1.0 world that uses absolutely different may to generate a map in the first place.
It would make much more sense just to move up into 1.0 with Towny and some basic mod, to let people at least rebuild on 1.0, then adding up mod as they're updated. I've been playing on another server with 20-30 average online daily, and current Bukkit version seems pretty fine, since there were only one minor drawback, almost unnoticeable on a regular backup.
Well, whatever, I don't think my Stonewall's Vault cell is still intact...
-To specify no towns are being "transferred", mayors of the towns are using the materials their camps gathered to landscape, and set up walls and roads so a town can be a protected area for members to stay while they get setup.
-Also the world that they are building on was generated on a 1.0 vanilla server so the new features, blocks, and biomes will be present.
-The plan is to move up to 1.0 as soon as a stable version is out and when minimal plugins are updated. We are only looking to have Permissions, Multiverse, and Logblock updated as our minimum plugins list, but due to the fact that bukkit does not have a stable build many plugin creators are holding off on updating because much of the changes in bukkit are core changes that make plugins become incompatible between builds.
Just a note for those watching the server to update - All vaults are still in tact from 1.7.3, and there is currently a vault world for 1.8.1 members to fill with loot they pillage from our temporary 1.8.1 world.
Unfortunately, with the 1.9 pre releases we made the plan to use 1.8.1 as a transitional world as we expected 1.9 to arrive quickly (Guessing with the code freeze mid-October) which would give us the new map generation with all the appropriate biomes.
When 1.9 never released officially, and with the Day 0 release of 1.0.0, we are being forced to wait a disproportionately long time for our transition to take place.
We are waiting for several plugins, in no particular order, once Bukkit updates to 1.0.0 (Which according to a recent Tweet may be less than a week away, which is what we are hoping for).
Logblock - We need a way to track griefing and other issues.
WorldGuard - We require this to protect large scale server projects such as the spawn city (Still unnamed).
Towny - It would be a bad idea to build and then have Towny pop along to show us our plots are all misaligned.
iConomy - In game currency is a major part of the server for the fact that we are pushing for a more RP feel.
Heroes - Heroes has made some major changes since 1.7.3 and only in the last three weeks have we succeeded in having the majority of skills working for classes.
Templecraft - Since 1.8.1, we have begun using Templecraft. For the moment it's just being used for basic adventure type dungeons, but it allows for instances and we are working hard to tie this into Heroes for party support, etc.
Multiverse - Absolutely necessary for more reasons than I care to count right now.
Permissions - Doesn't really need an explaination.
As Slimjimmybob stated, Halfcraft would be less than successful if we updated without the things that make this server function the way it does.
However, I created a 1.0.0 server on my home computer and pre-generated the map for the 1.0.0 world. We cannot go beyond +/-1700 in any direction for fear of generating misaligned chunks, but everything within that is ready.
Most towns have already picked spots and we even allowed some basic terraforming to give pre-established towns a head start so they aren't starting at the beginning again.
The 1.8.1 world allowed for towns and players to gather even more materials to bring into the 1.0.0 world. This will allow them to build and establish themselves without destroying the landscape of the new world.
Vaults from the 1.7.3 world will be worldedited into the vault world once 1.0.0 is ready for Halfbit. Once we update to 1.0.0, players will have TWO WEEKS to remove their belongings from the vault world. The reason? More worlds put a strain on memory, and even though we have plenty of slots, it's still a pain in the **** to deal with. Also, it provides an unfair advantage due to the fact that 1.0.0 will re-enact full PVP/RP rules, meaning theft is dealt with as an RP/town issue.
Celtic and Kriptini already stated most of this, but I thought I'd bring it up.
