So I played survival mode for the first time today, and I'd thought I post my comments/suggestions.
1.*Better inventory:
It can be really annoying when I'm digging and I have all my dirt slots maxed out, and then I can't build anything ontop of the glowing mini-dirt cube things.
Anyways, why not be able to set a "stockpile" limit on resources? Like I could say DO NOT GATHER STONE WHEN ABOVE 50. This way, I couldn't even pick up stone when I already have enough blocks of it. I also think that the inventory should be set up to have 999 slots, where each block fills a slot. This way, I can collect 300 dirt blocks, but have less room for other blocks. And finally, a craftable item should really be a "block bank", where one could store extra blocks they don't need. Either that or a way to delete blocks from your inventory.
2.*Make water do more
First off, how come I can fire arrows at full speed through water? They should have a bit of friction!
Also, since when did wood sink to the bottom? Wood (or itleast the glowing minicubes) should float when mined!
And why can spiders do their lunch attack while submerged? What are they jumping off of?
3.*Too frusrating
I'm all for a hard game, but survival's difficulty just seemed cheap. Like I'd look away, and when I looked back there would be a swarm of zombies coming after me! And I never was able to have a good supply of mushrooms, so I often died quickly.
I must say, I really didn't care for the point system. Why kill baddies? They give you nothing, just points. It would be nice if baddies gave mushrooms, or maybe a special bone block?
4.*Mining is ZZZ
Whenever digging, I always seemed to find an endless amount of ore. One pocket I found 99+ cubes of gold. Another one was full of iron, and so on. It was just so boring holding my mouse over and over, collecting cube after cube of resource. Please make mining more fun!
5.*Some more level designs
I like the new survival caves over the old ones, but there still is room for improvement. Like for example, some caves inside the cliffs would be nice, and more distinc features, like big islands and beachs.
I always pictured survival mode as being trapped on a deserted island :wink.gif:
Otherwise I enjoyed survival, and can't wait for more features!
Survival is still in alpha, but these are good points.
1. Stockpile would need a rather complicated interface.
2. Minor tweaks, but should probably be done. Water needs to do things like make arrows ineffective (at a certain depth anyway), for sure.
3. Things are changing. Spawns should be more fair in the future.
4. I don't know if mining is changing :] Although I am under the impression that there miiight be equipment (i.e. mining picks) to let you dig faster. Also, this (mining) will be more rewarding once you can actually use gold for something!
5. The map generator may or may not be changing still (it's likely). Good suggestions, however! Variety is nothing to be scoffed at.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"I want to see forum posts saying "how do i kill dragon" with replies reading "lol"."
---> vede claimed Notch said this (and it is awesome).
umm yea. This is supposed to be in Suggestions. Here are my responses.
1. umm. do you read the blog at ALL? there is going to be a MUCH better one soon! although stockpiles are cool.
2. water physics is supose to be fairly hard, so I agree for all, but i dont think notch will do that sort of thing.
3. Meh.... TRY HARDER!!!
4. you call that not fun? why are you playing minecraft? (joking!! EVERYONE should.)
5. yea. i would love a city generator, or a dessert level (did I spell that right? either way....)
as others have said things are changing, just a note on 5. There are different level generators out there... people are making their own level generators that do this sort of thing, just give it some time.
