Sure, a lot of people don't like the new map generator because it's so amazing and over the top. It's not realistic, but you can't expect a lot of realism from a game about blocks. I think it shows off the fantasy setting that notch was going for, so in that respect, i like it.
As long as the maps are fun, it doesn't matter what they looks like.
Unless the land formation is too high up, so you can't build anything taller. Why is that, anyway? The other versions of the game were capable of having any arbitrary dimensions to a map, so why are the chunks in /infdev/ locked to a specific value? Couldn't it just as easily be determined by how high the terrain was to start with?
