Awsome im on my 10th day
i need the tree to grow though any tips on the sapling?
To get saplings to grow try this method...usually takes day and half a night to get it to grow.
Place the sapling on a block of dirt and a torch on the side or the dirt.

Also mods take the fun out of the map...especially if you're using a cow spawner.
Really funny!
I recently bought minecraft, so I'm not thaaaat familiar with it.
Right now I'm in need of tree, but luckily the first tree gave me 2 saplings. I'm mining till they grow.
At the first night, I got attacked by 4 spiders, coming from the water at different times. It left me with half a heart, making my shelter my only save place =p.
Currently, I'm swimming down at the water, as I found several coal blocks down the bottom. 1 coal block requires I go down then up again. Long time, but atleast I get some light!
theres coal under the grass area, thats where I got my first torches, I suffered a familliar fate my first night, 3 spiders... I fought them from within my tiny makeshift shelter with a stone sword and won their string with like 3 1/2 hearts left and I even got enough string to make a bow, although it was useless because I had no arrows at the time.
hey guys this looked like fun so i thought id try it out
Day 1-5: everything was going fine, only got one sapling from the tree though and it wasnt growing which was affecting my progress but no real dramas.
Day 6: computer froze while playing, logged back on to find an island had spawned right next to mine so i thought id go investigate/destroy it. Began destroying new island.
Day 7: Sun finally rose and i looked over at my island to find this.
Gave it a try, the tree only gave me one sapling, took several days to grow, and the new tree gave me none, fail there :<
So instead of wasting all the time passed on clearing the sand and start over, I build a boat and went to the mainland, which you could see forming in the distance by going on to the end of the island. I didn't go on the land, in fact I didn't leave my boat, and sure enough there was a tree at water level of which I was able to get 1 sapling and head back to the island. Saved some clearing time, but wasted some wood on the boat, oh well.
Just started on this, good idea. Got three samplings from the first three, planted two since I only had so much space. Haven't found coal yet unfortunately, but I'm surviving so I'm not complaining.
Trying out this map now. 30+ page thread says this map is likely epic win.
Edit:
Day 1 finished, no saplings dropped so I edited in (1) to save myself from re-downloading the save...digging through the sand right now to find something of use. Hit stone, already running super low wood for picks though and I don't want to start punching stone to find some coal.
Day 2 done, was killed 3 times by spiders. My own fault my first tree grew and I got excited and ventured out of my (relative) safety to grab the wood. Oh well lost some stone and a pick-axe nothing to fret over. Once day arrived my tree dropped 4 saplings! Now working on redesigning the mines entrance for greater safety and killing function of the cacti.
Day 3 is over, very uneventful night. I had literally no mobs spawn all night. As a survival game this unfortunately falls short but I like the idea of working with very limited supplies. I'm taking my operations mostly underground now, including my tree farm and eventual mining tunnels. 2 more trees popped up, makes such a huge difference to have a little bit more wood.
Impossible to play. As much as i want to play its impossible.
Whenever i try to move the World3 folder it says SYSTEM COULD NOT FIND THE FILE OR FOLDER SPECIFIED.
please fix so i can play. OH BTW im using 1.2.5

I run around in forests with giant branch clippers and break branches and raid junk in the forest.
wow pwnage m8
Several days passed, lots of going down in the caves and bringing back dirt up on the island. Made an outer wall to replace the cactus wall, prevent all the animals to drop to their death and allow me to get rid of all the sand below the dirt layer.
picture timez!
Haven't plastered the place with trees because I didn't really need the wood yet, still got plenty left, and went berserk on the torches.
Just a little view at the outer wall and what's still to do :<
No matter the difficulty I play on, no monsters spawn. It's been a good few nights now, and I'm utterly disappointed the highest danger I face is being pricked by my cacti farm.
EDIT: Just fought my first zombie.

Aw man! I can't believe I missed the boat on this one! Well, regardless, I'm going to DL and give it a try. :smile.gif:
edit: NIGHT 1!
Dear Journal:
I've been stranded on a desert island, somehow. I can't remember anything prior to me waking up on this sandy beach, so I believe I may have suffered a blow to the head, as I do have quite the headache. Looking around, I see nothing, but a few trees in the very far distance. They are, however, accompanied by land.
I have not seen any forms of life thus far, so my hopes of being rescued are pretty slim. I plan to make a shelter(maybe all those episodes of Suvivorman and Man vs. Wild have finally paid off!)
I was greeted by one singular tree on this island. I knocked it down, and planted some of it's saplings, to which I soaked liberally with water throughout the day. I used the tree's wood to fashion some tools. A weapon, a digging tool, and a smashing tool. My digging tool quickly broke in the soft sand, however, and I was forced to use my hands to dig. I also created a small workspace, on which I wouldn't have to worry about sand or other nuisances getting in my way of building more tools.
I splashed around in the water momentarily, and it was freezing cold. If I were to make it to the distant land, I would need some sort of flotation device. However, to my surprise, during my brief swim, I spotted some grey dirt. I dug it up and it was easily rolled into balls. Not sure what to do with this yet, but I have placed it in my pockets.
The sun was moving further and further west, this is when I realized I needed to get cracking on my shelter. I noticed some very tall cacti on this island, and decided they would be a good natural defense system against unwanted guests. I moved them all into somewhat of a rectangle. I then proceeded to fill the gaps with sand I had collected.
I brought out my sharp, weapon-like tool, and awaited day. I couldn't sleep.
here's part of cactus wall during day 3
