generally it would be fog at max and detail set to fast since we are looking for minimum requirements
of course i would accept fog at normal and details at fancy also

jabez, 1.66Mhz?
lol, i think he meant 1.66GHz (no current Operating System would even install at 1.66MHz much less run it)

I think I flooded the map with glowstone via BC, IC and EE
I have an eeepc t91 and Minecraft runs too slow (6 fps)
1.33 ghz - hyperthreaded
1 gb ram - 0 gb virtual
Intel GMA 500 (requires unofficial drivers to run minecraft due to lack of GL support)
I only get around 30FPS on the third fog and my specs are...
Video Card:Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset
RAM:6GB
System Type:64-Bit
OS:Windows7 home premium
Processor:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz 2.5GHz
OP Don't forget this is still in ALPHA alot of optimization is still to be done...in fact when Notch comes back from his trip thats gonna be one of the major things in the next update according to his blog is optimization so this thread might become useless in 2 weeks lol.
No fog ~45fps 30 while generating chunks.
Normal ~100-150 fps
Small-tiny 200+ FPS
All with av on and win 7 at best appearance for aero.. Also fancy graphics and fast graphics give nothing but a 5fps change for me..
EDIT:

Running about 20fps with normal fog and fast graphics. drops to 5-10 when on no fog, or creating new chunks.
Ram - 1Gb DDR1 133Mhz (lol)
Is DDR1 ram going to be an issue here? or is the clock speed irrelevant to the games framerate?
Yes DDR1 and the 1gb of ram and the clock speed are all going to mainly lower your game's fps. Since java can only get so much of your cpu and ram, the lower the amount, and since its ddr1, its going to kill your game, i can only imagine that the ram is really whats just destroying the fps your getting xD

Cool story bro. Please make a thread somebody cares about next time.

DDR 1 is basically uses 1 channel of in/out while DDR2 and DDR3 has 2 or 3 channels respectively
the amount shouldn't be a big issue when you stay within the general area (no new chunk being loaded/created)
a little more info I got about OpenGL. Apparently, version shouldn't matter since the basic library doesn't change much every time the version number increased, and OpenGL is the only cross-platform graphics library that EVERY graphic chip/card should support.
EDIT: I finally added the Recommend Requirements to the front should be alright for most people

I need more RAM. :l
I've got an old Dell Dimension 4300 and have no idea what to buy. :U I've only got 512 at the moment. Any advice?
Forgive my lack of computer knowledge.

you are better off buying a new computer or asking someone else who lives near you that knows how to do upgrades. we cannot help you much with the limited information you gave

I have a macbook 10.5.8 that is less than two years old. The framerate can maintain around 30 however it pauses and freezes every several seconds. I only have 2gb of memory but the game says it is only is allocated around 1gb.
Is the memory the reason why the performance it bad? or is there any other way to help?
Some info tell me if you need more:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB

there's couple of factors that affects your frame rate that I know of currently. memory is one of them but there are also graphic card and many other software problems that can affect performance. since you are playing minecraft on a laptop, graphic is probably the most significant factor. Internal built-in graphic chip on most laptop can handle most of the applications we throw at it today but since minecraft is in alpha, there is a lot of uncheck performance issues which makes minecraft unplayable or laggy on laptops

Are you saying that the performance will increase as the game gets updates? Oh well, thanks for the help anyway
I updated the page accordingly
