Whenever I try and run Minecraft.exe I get this error. I'm running Windows XP 32-bit. I can play using the browser, but I that's kind of a hassle, especially now when the website is down. I've tried googling it, and all I can find is that I need to allocate a different amount of memory, but I don't know where I can do that. PLEASE help.
Open "Run", type in %appdata%
Navigate to your .minecraft folder
place Minecraft.jar into your .minecraft folder
Copy the path to your minecraft.jar (It should be along these lines: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\.minecraft\Minecraft.jar)
Open notepad
Copy and paste this in it: java -Xms650m -jar "...Application Data\.minecraft\Minecraft.jar"
Then Save As: minecraft.bat (Make sure to change the filetype from .txt to .bat and make it save under all Files)
Run minecraft!
Did you find a light-grey block around sand that dropped four light-grey blobs when punched? That's called Clay.
Scan your PC, fix it up, see if that works.

I hope it works for you so you can feed your addiction. I had to get crackin because the site was down also :smile.gif:
It works! And I had all but given up on being able to play offline!
1. Download Minecraft.exe from www.minecraft.net
2. Save to your desktop as Minecraft.exe
3. Open Notepad
4. Copy and paste this in the notepad.
java -Xms650m -jar "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\minecraft.exe
5. Save as minecraft.bat to your Desktop
6. Run minecraft.bat and ENJOY !
This worked great for me! Thank you very much for posting!
edit: Finally after several deletions of the exe and of the .minecraft folder, I'm playing. We'll see how long it lasts.
java -Xms650m -jar "c:\minecraft\Minecraft.jar"
saved it, ran minecraft.bat from my desktop and im now playing. thanks!
this is the final and proper method to do it! guaranteed to work!
all u do is....
create a folder named "Minecraft"
then put the minecraft.exe and the minecraft.jar in there...
then open notebook
PUT THIS IN NOTEBOOK
java -Xms650m -jar "C:\Minecraft\Minecraft.jar"
save it as "minecraft.bat'' and as ALL FILES. not txt.
then click on the bat file on ur desktop! and it workes!
into notepad and saved as minecraft.bat
