meh helpful i guess but my spawn is soo close to my house anyway i dont need it :smile.gif: and if i was far away i would prefer to make a railway thing leading to it, more fun IMO.
I think this is at its most useful for when you travel to a distant continent many RL hours away and want to live there; let's say, walking from Sweden to southern Italy. Without this, it's like getting there and then forgetting your luggage and walking back for it. EVERY DAY. D: It would probably take you a RL month to lay the track to get that far out, depending on resources/boredom/insanity/etc. Tho an epic continent-spanning rail system would be a blast of an adventure in itself. Hrm.....

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.
Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that there is no such thing as playing Minecraft normally.
My original starting area that I spent countless hours working on had a generally boring topography, so I went out on a boat in search of a more awesome land and eventually found some of those sweet, swooping gigantic mountains. I then spent all my hours finding iron to build a rail between these two locations and finally connected them so I could setup base at this new spot.
The final thing I needed was a new spawn point, and you have provided :smile.gif: Thanks!
It has a feature that lets you change your spawn to your position, and change your position to any x y z.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother;
And gentlemen shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks
That fought with us upon this day!
Can someone help me? Every time I change the file I save, and then it gets changed back.
yep ! same here!
has this just been fixed (you cant do it anymore) or is there some trick to it? would really like to go and live somewhere else but dont want to keep spawning where i do..
whenever i change the values from NBEdit and save, they just get changed back no matter what. when i close and reopen the file, the spawn values are back to what they were initially. initially when i first changed it, it changed my spawn by about 5 blocks or so.. but it is still nowhere close to where i need to be spawning.
Meh, I'll just wait for a BED to act as my spawn point.
on a side note.... what happens if you use this as a method of fast travel to places you havent been?
I would also like to know the answer to this question. Will the map generate more? If so, what happens when the new area meets the old area through exploration?
I was playing in my world on when the power shut off for half a second. My ENTIRE WORLD did not save.
When I went to start a new on on that same save, I noticed something different about the trees around me. They had no wood. So I followed this wood-less tree path and wouldn't you know it there was my base.
So THERE's a new way to change your spawn!... ish.
Im trying to figure out a simple method of doing this on mac so I can share. I am almost always unsatisfied with my spawn point and will often wander crazy distances until I find a place to build my first permanent settlement.
I can confirm that when editing a SMP level.dat file and changing the Spawn values (X,Y,Z) with a new player position value using NBEdit, as soon as the server is restarted the values return back to their original value.

i have searched around but i haven't gotten an answer for this issue.

Ah! Thanks. I was having that problem too, but then I closed out the game and then made the changes and it worked!
