Thats some nice hardware u got there. Minecraft tends to be a hog though, so its very possible that it simply is doing that. It tends to lag more when generating new areas also.
I have less than that + W7 and can run MC on the settings you're trying, although Far tends to be laggy no matter what your rig due to Java itself disliking that particular setting. I'd try cleaning it like so if I were you:
Follow these steps, all the software mentioned is free (no trials, mind you, just freeware) and very small. I use them myself. You'll need to do a few restarts between cleaning intervals.
1. Get CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
2. Run both registry and normal cleaning. Close all programs beforehand.
3. Restart your computer
4. Get Defraggler http://www.piriform.com/defraggler
5. Run that. This step may take a bit.
6. Restart your computer
7. Get Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/
8. Scan any drives you use commonly.
9. If you have Norton or McAfee, get rid of them. They're both useless resource hogs.
10. Restart your computer
11. Install the free and statistically better Avira Personal. This one will ask you to buy the premium version in a popup when it updates, but that's not necessary, just close out of it. If you are more familiar with Avast or AVG, get one of those instead, they rank up there with Avira. http://www.avira.com/en/support-download
12. Restart your computer
6 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Triple Channel
Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.44 GHz (Overclocked)
ATI Radeon HD 4890 1 GB GDDR5
1 TB 7200 RPM HDD
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Is that a problem with Minecraft itself? My computer shouldn't be lagging at all.
Found it.
Just kidding.
