My largest project to date: the Minecraft Intercontinental Railway. Nearly 6 game miles in length, it takes an hour to get from one end of the world to the other.
I really recommend going on youtube and watching it in HD.
I can't get this map to render in Cartographer in isometric mode. It ends up producing 0 byte pngs, so I produced a render in Overviewer, which you can find here.
I did make heavy use of editing tools like INVedit and MCedit, but all of this was built by me. Let me know what you think!
How did you get autocart to work with the new update though?
I didn't. I decompiled the game files and removed the fuel requirement for powered minecarts. I won't be releasing this modification, because I don't think Notch really likes mods aside from texture packs.
Boosters are ugly, take up a significant amount of space, make it so I can't easily measure the track length (I use Cartograph's statistics), and rely on a glitchy part of minecart physics that will probably be fixed.

I wonder how much fuel that would use without the mod...
Notch wants to fix boosters and replace them with a "booster block", when this happens, will you continue to use your hacked powercart or will you place booster blocks?
That would depend on how good his implementation is, and how fast it makes the cart. If the cart travels too fast it just makes the video extra blurry when sped up. Then again, I'm very happy with everything Notch has done so far.
Damn dude, that's freakin awesome. Seems like no matter how big of a project I can think of someone goes and makes the most insane things beyond what I could imagine. Cool stuff bro.

that is one very long track.

And come on, you have to release this.
Here's my question:

As I noted above, I used INVedit and MCedit extensively. Most of the structures were hand-built once and then duplicated.
I did.
There's another one at 3:07. I use these because an hour is way too long to walk from end to end.
