I wanted to build an enclosure to block out the sun, allowing mobs to spawn freely above ground. I generated a few worlds hoping to find a nice start, and this island-rich one was too hard to pass up. The structure will be a 50 radius hemisphere surrounding an island near my spawn location. This is the progress of Isla Sorna, Site B.
Try to make it all the way through the island, starting with no items. I left some helpful stashes in various locations. Inside the Dome there is a feeding padock, a lookout tower, and a maintenance shed. Though the power is out, so that must be activated to unlock the exit doors :biggrin.gif: There is also a small viewing section and a place to leave items at the main entrance.
Here is a view of the base of the dome, as well as some of the island itself. I had to plant some extra trees to give it a nice forest.
Arial view from atop the first strut of the dome. Most of the island and wall are visible. Currently the wall is 3 meters tall.
Viewing the first completed strut from sea level. Reaches 50 blocks into the sky, just above cloud level.
After finishing the second strut across from this one, I learned that the base geometry was slightly off >.< had to replace about 75% of the wall, and burned down the struts...
A minor set back, I quickly rebuilt them. Upon nearly finishing the 3rd, I was greeted by this cunning fella. The mobs are catching on much sooner than I had anticipated...

Here is the start of the Domed roof. It is approx 48 block diameter so far. Building it is taking much more time and resources than previously expected...
Now at a 70 block diameter. Building should speed up once I hit the more vertical sections. Also had a creeper, zombie and skeleton spawn at the same time on top while I was building -.- Added 60 more torches. The area below is officially dangerous now... Those are spiders circled there..
Full dome, minus the open section.
From the inside, daylight is visible from under the wall o.O
Dome is sealed!
Front Gates. I couldn't think of what to make it look like... So it ended up looking like a space invader -.-

Will there be a cool entrance? or a Farm?
I do have a few cool entrance ideas floating around in my head, as well as a few plans for bunkers/sheds too. Gotta go do some stuff today, but plan to post about the dome construction later tonight.
EDIT: To everyone who wants the map, I'll be sure to upload it once I'm done. Currently the map is 10mb, hopefully zippage will lower that alot...

Nice. The creepers, THEY ARE LEARNING! Soon they will know how to make tools, then they will extract gunpowder from their brethren, and then, they will grow arms and throw TNT at us!
Small update, roofing started(See first post). It is making cave noises on top of it while I building. They are oddly fitting, since most sound like gusts of wind. I am leaving on section open until its done, just to be able to observe the progress, and the island at the same time. Dead tired, more to come later.

Oh wow :ohmy.gif: I love these humongous things that looks symmetrical! :biggrin.gif:
If I had any internets left, I would give them to you .. :tongue.gif:
Another small progress update, Monsters be spawning in the day now, and the animals are all being pushed to the edges of the island. It kinda looks like they are trying to escape...
