I saw a post, viewtopic.php?f=35&t=55552 , to be exact and I planned to make it be my next big project, but I don't really know what "Chunk 0" is or even how to find it. How do I find it, exactly?
Edit: Already got all the info I need, thanks everyone!
It requires outside programs to locate, though im not sure which ones are capable.

First, just a bit of a correction, it's like a grid of chunks, so it would actually be 0,0.
You can find it by using MineEdit to view your map, and it will label the chunks.
Oh, yeah, I also am making that project too. :tongue.gif:
Chunk 0,0 is not necessarily where you spawn (its possible, but just as likely as any other chunk). That also wouldnt tell you the boundaries of the chunk even if you did spawn there.

4. Go into your world folder (the one that is still in the .minecraft/saves folder) and go into folder 0. From there, go into folder 0 again. The chunk file in this folder is for chunk 0,0. Delete it.
5. Now make a map of your world using cartographer again. The chunk that is missing is chunk 0,0.
6. If you have MCEdit, use it to go into your world folder that has chunk 0,0 deleted. Using this, you can find the exact location of the chunk's 16x16 bounding box, down to the exact coordinates, by visiting this chunk location. You cannot do this in game because the chunk will just regenerate.
7. You have two options. If the chunk was in the middle of nowhere (such as the ocean) you can outline the bounds of this chunk with cobblestone or something using MC edit and then go back into the world. When you get close enough to chunk 0,0, it will just regenerate. However, if the chunk was over structures you placed or a mine that you wish to keep, just note where the chunk is exactly and replace your changed save with your back up.
8. Profit!
Edit: Or use mineedit! I didn't know it could do that.
Also, you don't necessarily spawn directly on chunk 0,0, but the game does spawn you on top of the block that is closest to chunk 0,0 and also happens to be at sea level. This may be chunk 0,0, but there is a very good chance it isn't. This is also why people spawn near the sea so often.
What would you like to know about the trap? Design specs are in that topic, as well as a save so you can check it out yourself.

I didn't see the save, but the design isn't what I had questions about, more like...do I build it around the entire perimeter of the 0,0 chunk? also, why does it have to be on chunk 0,0?
Yes, I built the exact trap over my own chunk 0,0 and it works perfectly. My suggestion, though, is to build it from the ground up, because I built mine from sea level down and ended up getting short a floor. The thing should be EXACTLY 27 floors of 4 tiles each, with 1 killing floor and with your canal extending 32 blocks from the center of the bottom floor (the canal should drop 4 times. 4 times 8 is 32).
The tower is 25x25, by the way. The center 15x15 of the tower should be directly over chunk 0,0 (without extending outside), because this is the spawning area. It needs to be chunk 0,0 because chunk 0,0 is where a ridiculous amount of enemies spawn, thanks to the nature of the spawning algorithm.
Hmm...well I found my chunk, but how do I know the exact center when I get there? Also where exactly do I start building? do I dig down to bedrock and start from there, up? or what, exactly?
Yes the problem is getting the EXACT bondaries of the chunk. You can't do it in game because the chunk will just regenerate itself. This is why you need to use some map viewer (like MineEdit I guess) to see the exact boundaries out of the chunk.
hmm got a link to mineEdit then? also I checked out the save file...from what I can tell there is only 1 floor that's the "Collection" room, so to speak, its the place that kills all the mobs and sends the items down, while every floor going up is nothing but spawn rooms, that push mobs down into the trap, correct?
Also, how far down do I build? do I just go up to the sky limit and start there? slowly making my way down till I have exactly 27 spawn rooms?
Edit: Oh yeah...I saw TONS of torches lining up along the outside of the tower, is that necessary to do that? I assume it spawns less monsters outside and more monsters int he tower, right?
i used cartographer to find it, as mentioned above. then i went into nbt forge and outlined the missing chunk with wood blocks. finally, replaced the .dat file for the zero chunk and went to find it in my world.

Keep digging down until you get to the bedrock. The bottom 5 layers of the map have bedrock. The layer above the top bedrock layer is where your canal will end, and where you will stand to collect your items. This means your collection room can have a floor of your design, because bedrock won't get in the way. From the ground up, it should look like this (these blocks are NOT directly on top of each other, btw, I am just describing what should happen at each layer from the bottom bedrock layer up.
The bottom floor of your kill room (your 'swastika' flow ends here and leads into the hole).
[] Hole in the bottom floor of your kill room (the very base of your tower is centered around this hole and around this block).
[] Hole in the bottom floor of your kill room.
A single water source block creating a flow towards the water source block below it (8 blocks away).
A single water source block creating a flow towards the water source block below it (8 blocks away).
A single water source block creating a flow towards the water source block below it (8 blocks away).
A single water source block creating a flow towards your collection point (8 blocks away).
Collection room floor.
Upper bedrock layer.
Bedrock layer.
Bedrock layer.
Bedrock layer.
Bottom bedrock layer.
From the bottom floor of your kill room at the top, build upwards. That is where your 25x25 tower outline begins, and you build your tower up starting with the kill room. After the kill room and your 27 floors, you will have exactly one layer left to build in. This is your roof.
Edit: And torches outside the tower are unnecessary, but they should help. I still got a ridiculous rate without em.
1) go here: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=57715
2) download the gps app
3) select your world in the app menu
4) use the coordinates to find 0,0
5) ???
6) PROFIT!
Yes, 6 to be exact with my design. That second hole block (the one at the top) is where the base is, and the one above it is where the swastika collection flow ends. You want the 4 canals because they put you 32 blocks away from the center of your tower (20 from the edge). There is a 25 block circle around you where enemies will not spawn, and you don't want this zone overlapping your tower.
hmm sounds great, how do I find the exact center of my chunk again? I found the chunk but I'm not sure how to find the dead center, a few people have linked a few things but I know nothing of them, or which is best to use. Also are all those torches outside necessary? didn't get an answer I think.
I edited my post late regarding torches. They aren't necessarily but they won't hurt. I still get a ridiculous spawn rate without them.
And as I said, I used MCEdit (another guy mentioned using NBT Forge, should work just as well) to outline the 0,0 chunk with cobble stone, so all I had to do was find the 18x18 cobblestone square to find the exact outline of my 0,0 chunk. I just don't know of any better way to do this than with MCEdit/NBT forge, but I am sure there is one out there. Maybe the compass the guy above posted? I have not tried it.
