My friend used to complain how every game is having the "craft" suffix at the end of the title when really only 3 major franchises have that name. Now he argues that Minecraft is the same thing as Garry's Mod, if not better. He even goes off to say that Garry's Mod can be modded to "play" just like Minecraft. I guess he can't accept the awesomeness of Minecraft.
Garry's mod can not be modded to play just like Minecraft. It can be modded to use a lot of memory keeping track of fixed entities made to emulate blocks. If Garry's mod tried to do what Minecraft does, Source would melt your CPU.
The two games are very different and should not be compared. Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about.
One day i'll finish this autonomous spy drone I started building years ago...

And like the baseless fabric of this vision, the cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn temples, the giant Screen itself, all of which we inherit shall dissolve. And, like an insubstantial pageant faded, leave not a byte behind.
It can be modded to use a lot of memory keeping track of fixed entities made to emulate blocks.
. . . which would likely kill even the highest end machines if you tried to make a world the size of Minecraft. Minecraft maintains large worlds with optimized data structures and by only keeping the visible area in memory. Patching something together that wasn't designed for that purpose is likely to fail.
. . . and would he rather spend hours of labor modding Source, or would he prefer to play something already made?

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
in gmod can you move and displace EVERY ****ING PEICE OF THE WORLD!?(exept bedrock:P) that's pretty much the reason i like minecraft, complete freedom in every way
So what do you guys think?
Just tell him Garry's Mod doesn't have mobs and tiered items.
Because it is.
However, Minecraft is just as amazing as Gmod.
