Well I'm fairly proud of the reed farm design I made, but I was wondering if anyone found a more efficient design, so as such, I present my farm design.
Replace reeds with trees and water with torches for the tree farm design. This is the most efficient design I've found so far on an infinite scale.
Would be nice if anyone had any improvements to add.
Cactus farm? Simply place cacti in a checkered pattern, on top of sand. There's no more efficient way to do it, as cacti may not be placed directly next to a block.

Crossection:
Yes, water does moisten the ground if it is below it.
Crops however it is very very efficient.
Has anyone got a good cactus farm design?
Wait, it doesn't? That's not true...
There is a point in that cross-section, though. expand to this:

(where = reed)
Every reed is on soil, with water next to it, even though the water is hidden. Compact, if you have the vertical space to grow.
This method was described in another thread, just repeating good advice.
Oh hey, that's cool. :biggrin.gif: Thanks!
