I started a new game yesterday, and I spawned pretty much under a massive floating island. It was awesome looking so I decided to live there. I started gathering materials to build my way up there, and chunks from the island just started vanishing. The island literally was deleting itself in front of my eyes. By the time it had stopped, it was no more than four randomly floating blocks.
I was a little mad.
Why did it do that? and has anyone else seen this?
I'm not 100% sure on this but it might be the way that erosion works when generating new terrain. We all know that terrain is statically generated from a seed, but I surmise that several filters are also passed over it, for example erosion filters (which give the terrain a realistic feel). It could be that simply just as the terrain was generated before your eyes, then a filter was passed over it which eroded and removed some of the blocks. I imagine this would only ever be visible during first map generation, as usually generation happens too far away to see what is going on.
Well it did happen almost instantly. Maybe the filter was lagging a bit?

Glitch maybe?
Click those guys, it won't take 5 seconds of your life.
Maybe it was something to do with a previous save in that world? (I went through 3 mapgens before I got the island one I liked.)
