Just imagine it,
I get a little lonely on Single player and I only have the confort of the Sheep. But it be cool if we had NPC tribes , so you could trade , pillage , visit other NPC tribes. You could even make allaiances and wars with them. So if a tribe hated you they would stalk you to your house , and if you would kill tribe members they would have nice drops. Killing a chiften would give you an UBER weapon or Ore. Mabey you could even form your own tribe?
He needs to add NPC villages or small towns to SP, which you can trade with, fight, or get quests from. I would seriously ejaculate all over the place if this ever happens.

I feel like I saw NPC tribes in his todo list... or somewhere..
Trading? That would be ok. A good use for gold maybe, I'm ok with this.
Quests? Eeeeeehhhh, not a big fan. Hard to make a good 'random quest generator'. It would end up being a million fetch quests.. not very interested. I wouldn't mind if there was a quest framework for dungeon mode and modding but not so much for survival.

It would be something more like a campaign. Like you accept a quest from someone such as a guard, who instructs you to defend the city from monsters that the quest would spawn that night (like the game would load up a new level with just that town and a few surrounding areas, so it's not like real time gameplay) and you would then get a reward (gold can be used as currency of course, which you could use to buy stuff from stores). Get a quest from a blacksmith that tells you to find certain ores or something like that, that would allow you to craft a unique wep, that could kind of upgrade your weps or give you a wep that last longer than iron but does less damage, or upgrade armor, or repair armor. Get a quest from a soldier that tells you to kill that many monsters, get a quest from a cavalry (on pigs :P) that would then allow you to be able to control pigs when riding them.
I really REALLY think this would make the game amazingly awesome to play.

That would kind of turn it into a RPG, but good idea.

High-fives are a renewable resource, so there shall definitely be more.
I'm on the fence for quests, but I'd like to interact with them somehow.
(Also, being sadface because Minecraft is turning into an RPG is kind of silly. MC is pretty much a RPG as it is. Sure it doesn't have a lot of RPG mechanics but everyone roleplays a little. and there IS crafting. I can understand the concern, though. We don't want MC to turn into Runescape.)

Exactly what I want. RPG x Notch's awesome and unique ideas + Minecraft =
Sooner or later the game will get boring. I don't want to do the same thing over and over again (mine, cut trees, build, kill, repeat). Even if there weren't quests, NPC towns would still be amazing.
True, It is Roleplaying in a way, but it depends on the player. I just don't want quests or NPC's because Minecraft is sort of like my get-away from those games, like Runescape, as you mentioned.
I'm just wondering how the villages would act with the randomly generated would. Someone stated "quests" and it brings up wave battles of mobs to mind (EX Kill # of MOB)

I like MineCraft the way it is.
