I hope projects of this scope spring up when multiplayer survival comes out.
Ignore me, I'm just thinking how things would turn out if an imagined governmental system, like pretend feudalism, came about in a large server, with players contracting constructions of huge cities, castles, a real trade system and routes, and... uh... big-scale stuff like that.
Ignore me while I realize how that likely won't happen unless it is specifically planned out, at which point it will be an unstable concept at best.
Ignore me as I reflect on why "thinking aloud" is a dangerous thing for me to do, and why people would always be done listening before I'd be done talking if I ever did think aloud.
It will be extremely annoying if infdev causes all current maps to become incompatible with a future update
This. I don't want to be the guy that tells you not to do a huge megaproject yet, but you really shouldn't do a huge megaproject yet. I'd wait until Notch has things stable and isn't going to update with a feature that will completely fry this when you try to load it up.
Not to be a downer, I just don't want to see something this cool abandoned because he updated and you lost a ton of work. What you have so far is awesome in any case. :smile.gif:
Very cool project, dude, and it's looking great so far!
This is the sort of thing that'll be even more sweet in MP. People can take shifts gathering materials and building, merchants could trade stone to this sort of project in exchange for diamond or whatever, that sort of thing.
Of course, it'll also be a giant griefer magnet. :tongue.gif:
this is going to be insane :tongue.gif:, you'll probably want to never use it in multiplayer (nothch is almost ready to work on it :biggrin.gif:) unless u backup the completed city file

on that note, it would be a epic RP server map.

if you pass on the map file, i can mine you alot of stone and wood.
While before I asked for help, I've decided that I will solely work on this project alone. However, I really appreciate your generosity on wanting to help out.

I've read that when people delete maps some of their things they've built had not been lost, but hidden somewhere and mostly destroyed. I think it would be amazing to discover a complete abandoned destroyed city.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for. I want people to try and destroy my stuff, I want to see battles take place with people placing TNT to try to hinder the movement of the invaders, or to try and trap those within. When I release the save file when it's done, I'm looking forward to the people who can do the most damage to it.
And here's an update.
I'm nearing completion of the bridge. I've calculated how many blocks I've used and will use for the surface area up to the third tower. 2760 blocks. This does not include the towers, the ramps, and the rest of the bridge. I'm probably looking at over 4000 blocks for the bridge now, before when I thought it only take about 1000.
I'm also adding in a way to walk up to the top of the towers along with a chest full of food and some materials. Food is abundant because pigs keep spawning at the top of the towers and fall down, which is hilarious.
Maybe when you're done, you can recreate all of Cyrodiil! After all, you have an infinitely (for all intents and purposes) large playfield to work in...
...could be a job for multiplayer mode, though.
I guess you're lucky all the doors in the Imperial City are so high, they're almost exactly 3 metres tall!
Looking fantastic so far. You have a lot of smelting to do.

Look away, now look back. THE GHAST IS NOW DIAMONDS.
Anything is possible when you smell like a man and your game is minecraft.
This is completely off-topic but.... What is this rubbish about DRAGONS?! I mean, I've seen so any signatures waffling on about how you have a freaking dragon sitting on a bouncing egg. Wtf!
lol, in any case. the imperial city doesn't have to be completely alike. it can have the same jist (sp?), like all the sections and the circle thing, but otherwise, i see that mountain becoming a..... HUGE problem. literaly....
